Green Mountain Speedskating Club

Skaters, we do not have practice tonight (12/28), or next Sunday, January 4. Hope to see everyone on January 11! Happy new year! 

Attention speedskaters and potential speedskaters! The new season has begun! The Winter Olympics are coming up next year, so in order to BE a speedskater and impress your friends, you’ll want to start now!  We skate on Sundays at Spartan Arena in Rutland.  Tonight‘s practice is at 5:45. Please message or email us for more information. If you have basic skating skills, you can learn to speedskate! 

On Sunday, we celebrated our amazing Coach Dave and his retirement from his position as operations manager at Spartan Arena! Not to worry, he will still be coaching speedskating! THE 2025-26 SEASON BEGINS!

The ice is in at Spartan Arena! Our first practice will be SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 at 5:45 PM. Anyone of any age is welcome as long as the skater has basic skating skills, which are: ability to glide and stop unassisted, ability to get up from a fall. You do not need speedskating experience.

Ice time is $20 per session for adults, $10 for skaters under 16. Seasonal club dues are $50 for an individual skater, and $75 for a family with more than one skater. Skate rental is $40 per season. 

If you need to borrow speedskates, let us know ASAP and provide your street shoe size. Loaner skates have to be prepared and sharpened in advance. We will not be able to accommodate you if you just show up to practice and tell us that you need skates.

Helmets, neck guards, long pants and sleeves, and cut resistant gloves are required. A bike helmet will suffice to start out with. If you don’t have a speedskating neck guard, you can get a hockey neck guard at any sporting goods store. Cut resistant gloves would be leather or similar material.

Any other protective equipment, like kneepads, elbow pads, eye protection, etc. are optional but highly recommended.

Join our exciting sport, so in this winter Olympics year, you can tell your friends and family that YOU are a speedskater!

Masters Speedskating camp in Lake Placid was fun, challenging, and HOT, with camaraderie and silliness too. Green Mountain was well represented this year, with Coach David Manfredi, Carvel Bevans, and Chip K and me! What a great way to spend three beautiful summer days!

Roundup: Poultney's Stein terrific at 'MIST' DRUMMONDVILLE, Quebec — Poultney’s Danica Stein made a big splash at the Masters International Short Track (MIST) event in speedskating over the weekend, she skated to a sixth place ranking

Eleven countries, 139 skaters…three days of international-level competition is so draining, we’re just getting to the post-meet update now 😆 MIST 2025 in Drummondville was a whirlwind of skating, friendship, inclusion and unwavering support for one another. What fun to reconnect with our friends from other clubs (more photos to come)!

Coach Dave finished #2 in his age group, snagging four amazing silver medals and representing the USA and Green Mountain on the podium! The Green Mountain banner was even flying in the arena! Danica had some good races and while there were no medals for her, she accomplished several personal goals and finished strong. What an incredibly successful meet for our little club! 

Danica and Coach Dave are in Drummondville, QC skating alongside athletes from 11 countries in the MIST Games (Masters International Short Track). We have completed Day One of racing, and so far Green Mountain has snagged a silver medal in the 1000m! Here is Dave on the podium (with the gold medalist from Great Britain), and his super-cool MIST fierce beaver medal! Go, Green Mountain!
