𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙪𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙞𝙨𝙣'𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚—𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩?

For a long time, I believed there was one path that would prove I'd "made it" with horses.

The more attached I became to that outcome, the harder it was to appreciate the horses, opportunities, and growth that were already right in front of me.

Eventually, I had to confront something bigger: my results had become tangled up with my sense of worth.

In my latest blog, I'm writing about what happened when that way of measuring my life became unsustainable—and why starting over gave me the opportunity to build a very different definition of success.

Watching a horse discover liberty work for the first time is always special.

Renny is still very new to this work, but he’s picking it up quickly. Why do all of my horse do liberty work? It’s about more than teaching a series of movements, liberty is about developing communication, curiosity, and connection. There’s a beauty in finding a way to work together when there is nothing physically asking the horse to stay close.

That connection is what makes liberty work so beautiful to watch. It’s a conversation between horse and human, built on trust, attention, and a willingness to listen to one another.

🐴 **HELP WANTED AT UNEXPECTED FARM** 🐴

Now that school is back in session, some of our regular staff are headed back to the classroom — which means we’re looking for more helping hands at Unexpected Farm!

We would love a reliable, hardworking person to join our farm team for **20–25 hours per week**, with a combination of morning and afternoon shifts.

This is a hands-on position working around horses and includes the day-to-day chores that keep a busy farm running smoothly.

We’re looking for someone who:
• 🐎 Is comfortable and confident working around horses
• 💪 Is dependable and takes pride in their work
• 🚗 Has reliable transportation
• 📱 Has strong communication skills
• 🤝 Can work independently and as part of a team
• 🌱 Has a positive attitude and a willingness to learn
• 💦 Doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty!

**Reliability, transportation, and strong communication skills are a must.** Horse experience is a plus, but a great work ethic and willingness to learn are equally important.

We have an busy long weekend coming up with Karen Rohlf of Dressage Naturally!

We’ll kick off the weekend Thursday evening at 6:30 with a 𝙁𝙍𝙀𝙀 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙩: Creating Happy Athletes, with Karen Rohlf. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about Karen’s philosophy and the principles behind Dressage Naturally.

On Friday and Saturday, 11 horse and rider pairs will join Karen for a two-day workshop. Together, they’ll spend the weekend exploring how to apply Karen’s principles to their riding and horsemanship, with 𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙧 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙮 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙚. The workshop runs from 9:00–5:00 each day.

Sunday rounds out the weekend with eight private lessons, giving each horse and rider the opportunity to work one-on-one with Karen toward their own individual goals.

All rider spots are full, but 𝙬𝙚’𝙙 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙟𝙤𝙞𝙣 𝙪𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙤𝙧! Come spend the weekend learning, watching, and soaking up as much as you can.

When we asked who you wanted to see at Unexpected Farm this year, the answer was overwhelmingly 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐛… so we’re bringing her here at your request!

If you’ve been hoping for the opportunity to ride with Amelia, 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫. In order to keep our clinic dates with Amelia, we need a few more riders to fill the remaining spots.
