Paralympic medalist on why being out isn't a choice. It's a necessity:

"For me as an athlete, being out is less of a choice and more of a necessity. I’m pushed so far emotionally and physically by sport and competition alone, and I can’t imagine expend more energy trying to hide or suppress parts of my being. I feel so comfortable around my guides, teammates, coaches, family and friends, and I rely so heavily on that feeling of comfort and safeness to recharge and energize me on a daily basis, and that ease and comfort wouldn't be possible without being out."
