Being on the cusp and having come from a higher level of fitness than I currently have, I can resonate with this video. I am enjoying my very last year as a 30 something and it's a very different experience than just 4-5 years ago. Josh has been in the competitive space of CrossFit longer than i have been doing it as a "normie" and his perspective on life and fitness is one that spans a military career, Games career and now in his 40's just a business owner and family man.
He illustrates that his goals have changed so much since not competing, and because of that, he whole approach to his routine. But there's STILL a routine. CrossFit is made for people who know that work is the only way to success and goal attainment. Even when you switch up what those goals are.
Always try, always show up. The " yes i can" attitude can be measured in inches and in yards and in miles. sometimes it the later, mostly the first. But it's the act of DOING in anyway we can.
Like he comments on in the video: Motivation comes and goes. Dedication is what gets you there.
Stay vigilant my friends.

CrossFit has undergone many changes and accusations over our history. It has become everything from a hobby, a stress relief provider, a way to lose weight, gain muscle and most notably in the media: compete. But When i got into Crossfit 12 years ago, there weren't so many cliques and styles. What we had was good science, commitment and a passion for changing the world.
I've seen CrossFit become many shapes and faces in order to allow for accommodation and accessibility. Different advertisements and ways to "sell" why you should be here with us in the CF space. No matter how many times we have been lied to, misrepresented and even those of you that have turned your back on what it is, the thing that will remain is the truth.
That truth is that Coaches care. Good Coaches make you work. They get you to be happy while you work. Great Coaches make you deal with what you have to. Real talk. Because beyond the shoes and belts and buddies it comes down to you. Being your best. Doing the work and living with purpose. And on the other side of that coin, We the Coaches need to be educated, experienced, we need to be interactive and honest and help those who need it.
Greg's speech is mostly about how our science needs to be defended on a global level but, if nothing, just listen to the first 20 mins of this thing. Know that I, Coach Calvin, represent that first 20 mins. Showing you what really matters. Getting up. Getting here. Do the work. Do it well. Don't lie to yourself. Stay true. Then, and only then, be successful.
A real Coaches job is not easy. It's not playtime. It's not for playing loud music and saying "good job". it's work. It's hard.
And if you are a CF coach and you don't think it's hard, work harder. You have more to do.

Greetings and salutations fine soldiers of the gymnasium Battlefield!
Welcome to another beautifully chilly November! My name is Coach Calvin and I will be your tour guide for the duration of this month :)
First off, I just want to say how proud I am with the participation and enthusiasm of last months, “pumpkin swing challenge “. Many of you fully embraced the concept, and we saw veer marked improvements in performance because you guys were putting in the time in the work!
Even if you were not the person to receive one of the top three slots in your division, everyone who participated gained that much more fitness and ability (which is really the point of it anyhow).
So kudos to everyone involved and I hope you enjoyed it.
That being said, let’s talk about November’s challenge . The Turkish Get up.
Or more importantly “ The Turkey-ish Get Up”
Last month we had a chance to focus on hip function and midline stability. The kettlebell swing taught us how to brace, extend our hips violently and receive force and load without damaging our position. It also gave us stronger, hamstrings and glutes in order to run faster and be more efficient in our gymnastics. This month we will be focusing on shoulders, stability, and range. The Turkish get up is pound pound, one of the best things you can do to create a better connectivity and awareness in your shoulder joint as well as safely making it stronger.
Multiple times a week we will carve out a little bit of time to review the steps and possibilities of why the Turkish get up is so good for us. And just like the swing, it is a movement pattern that we can repeat day after day safely, without overusing the muscle tissue.
Because it does not require a great deal of flexion and extension. It focuses on smaller muscle groups that hold the shoulder joint in place. This is a fantastic way to improve not only your pressing, but also your pulling wouldn’t you know it ,there’s some midline stability in there too.
Given all the success we’ve seen last month with the swing I’m very excited to be able to introduce and reinforce good shoulders throughout the month of November.
Realize this is not " Competition Format" there are no points because we don't want folks to rush the movement in order to gain points. Its all about Patience, Stability, and Strength.
This may demotivate some of you but remember, the WORK is the point and the RESULTS are the Prize. It paid off alot with you guys last month so lets keep that heat!
November 11 is Veterans Day. And We'll be observing it on Saturday Nov 12th with a Dave Castro inspired call to action of the "Chad 1000" workout
For Time:
1000 Step ups 45/35 # 20" box
As we have done before, this can be partial reps, team effort, changed and adjusted to all of our beautiful members. But keeping within safe parameters.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Finally We say Hello! to our Member Of The Month:
Dave C !!!!!!!
(I know, Im just as surprised as you lol)
Always one to bring his very own, very special brand of personality to the gym, David has been true to out community as long as i have been a part of it. He has experienced many ups and downs but his growth of the last year has been undeniable.
Both as an athlete and as a human being. Currently he is enjoying a fresh sense of momentum as he has PR'd a number of efforts and even manages to be on time for class ( mostly).
he aways knows how to bring a room up ( or downright keep it on it's toes)
Thanks Dave for always keep it interesting and please keep up the awesome work!
Thats all for now kids! Happy New month with new dreams and goals !!
Love Coach Calvin

This was a beautifully poignant message. In my opinion. Not my original thought but I love the way it’s framed. Everyone talks about the ability to sacrifice for the well-being of others somehow dying is the ultimate sacrifice, but what about work? Effort is harder than giving up and as much as you would like to say that dying for your kids is the hardest thing you can do, perhaps keeping yourself healthy and well balanced, and live long enough to support them throughout their existence, actually requires more effort and more sacrifice. As a father of five, I would give my life for any one of my children but until that day comes where I have to I’m going to keep my self and them happy and safe and healthy so that I can be there when they need me. Even when that’s not easy. Let’s normalize staying strong for the right reasons. Let’s normalize continual growth and effort. Let’s normalize the long haul.

Hello again my beautiful CrossFit family! Welcome to October!
I’d like to start off by saying I recognize that a lot of changes have happened over the last month or so and we certainly have seen our share of back-and-forth with employees members and otherwise. I just wanted to thank each and everyone of you for sticking around with us while we settle into our new digs and schedules.
Why don’t we get the brass tacks out of the way first. These last few months we saw the termination of our brief but magical experience with a potential strength coach. He was meant to fill in a position that was left open by the loss of our gym manager, Rachel. Rachel is on to more exciting ventures at this time and we still wish her the best of luck. However, with this absence, I will be responsible for the majority of those tasks and jobs including the classes. I will also be handling the majority of the email responses and social media. Those are two areas I know that I don’t have as many reps in lol.
I appreciate everyone’s patience while I find my rhythm in these new roles:) . My goals are to be able to make at least one social media post every other day if not every day in some fashion or another to keep you guys updated on all the fun interactions and daily goings-on within these walls.
- As far as email responses, please allow for a standard 3 to 5 business days for me to get information together if needed. If an email is more urgent and requires direct attention please feel free to tell any of the coaches and they can contact me directly for anything involving emergencies. Anything that may affect your account or payments. Everything should be smooth sailing, but we know that things happen and I want to attend to those problems as quickly as possible. Now let’s switch to the new stuff!!
- October is breast cancer awareness month and officially barbells for b***s was disbanded January of this year, but it was picked up by "Girls Gone Rx" and it appears that like us many CrossFit gyms around the world will still be honoring our tradition of doing the Grace style work out to raise awareness for breast cancer. You can look forward to CrossFit seven storms holding our breast cancer awareness workout October 14 Saturday from 9 to 11 traditionally the work out it’s just a straightforward “Grace”, but needless to say, I have a few surprises as well. I look forward to seeing you guys there.
- We have new Monthly Challenge " Pumpkin Swing Challenge"
each day you come in you will get a 2 min Clock to accumulate max reps of a KB swing. Just like our challenges before , each Kb weight has different points depending on which you use. those points get totaled at the end of the month and the top 3 winners get a prize!!!! Prizes Include Gear, Apparel, and gift cards :)
- And what months would be complete without our member of the month? Ladies and gentlemen let’s hear it for……(drumroll)
Nacho Recendez!!!
That’s right! Nacho is one of those athletes that very seldom brags or boasts his own accolades out loud. He’s the kind of person who will completely smoke you in a work out smile and be completely humble about it. He also does most of his workouts having done a full day at his own job teaching physical fitness to youths at school. So not only does he always try his best, but he performs honestly, peacefully, and does so at the very end of his very long day. I appreciate all athletes that work hard, even in the face of exhaustion. So thank you Nacho, for always bringing your best and helping to deliver health and wellness to the rest of the world.:)
- Of course, we couldn’t forget about the biggest part of October, which is of course, Halloween! It’s a Tuesday this year so that means I will be here ready to do a Spook-tacular work out with you guys all day long. As a Family man, the last 2 classes are cancelled to allow coaches to spend time with their children for the trick or treat festivities . I’ll plan on being in festive ( but reasonable) costume, and I hope that you will join me in the spirit of the day by wearing a costume piece or full outfit to do your work out in! That could be anything from wearing a giant pumpkin suit to just painting kitty whiskers on your face ! You guys know I’m just a big kid at heart, so let’s see your best!
Can’t wait to have another wonderful month with you guys and I’m looking forward to spending more time face-to-face with you this month then I have been able to this whole last summer. See you guys at the 321 go!
