Iceland Work Days: 7/ 13&14 8am-Noon
Removing the rail, w**ding, install frames for blocks

We have more work to do to get ready to install the roof. We will start installing the roof as soon as our Sacramento City Building Permit is approved. We expect the permit approval soon.

If you need volunteer hours for school we'll be happy to sign-off on your paperwork.

We have a lot to do to get ready to do the installation. We need to completely remove the rail, install the frames in the front windows so we can fill them with the engraved blocks, w**d (hopefully for the last time), and do general clean-up.

Please bring hammers, electric screw drivers and garden tools.

Be sure to wear old clothes and closed toe shoes.

We'll provide water and snacks! We look forward to seeing all of you!!!

Iceland reaches a major milestone on path back to year-round operation. Iceland has just received approval from the City of Sacramento for its new roof concept. The next step is to apply for building permits! The new roof will be higher, less arched than the original roof, and without the iron bars that crossed the rink. The new roof will also reach over the exisitng walls so that Iceland can have more off-ice space. We plan to open this fall!

Dear Friends of Iceland,
Our main page is Iceland Ice Skating Rink.

Dear Friends of Iceland,

We realize you’ve been wondering what’s happening with the roof plans. The wood roof that we expected to be built became extremely cost-prohibitive due to lumber prices skyrocketing 400%. As a result, new plans were required for the material changes needed. We will now have a metal roof like most ice rinks. This has unfortunately caused a several month delay in our construction plan.

The up side — Iceland will still have a beautiful new roof!
The down side — construction is delayed until 2022.
The extra up side — this allows some additional party spaces to be included in the plans. Yay!

To accommodate the roof change, a SMUD pole has to be relocated, requiring considerable lead time. The SMUD pole move is scheduled for March 2022. Once that is completed, we’ll have a better idea of when construction can commence.

Life without ice just isn’t as nice. We are of course very disappointed to share this news. The change in plans means another season without our beloved rink, which is very sad for us all.

We hope to see you skating when we reopen in 2022!
