That moment you almost said something…and didn’t.
It’s easy to brush past it and keep going.
And yet, those moments can stay with us in a quiet way.
Years ago, I had just self-published a book. There was no publisher behind it, only a sense that I was willing to bring it forward.
At an event, I found myself in conversation with someone and mentioned, almost in passing, that I had copies in my car and asked if she’d like to see one.
She said yes.
That simple exchange led to another connection and an opportunity I could not have anticipated.
Looking back, what stands out is not only being willing in that moment, but the absence of hesitation.
In my experience, when something in our lives feels incomplete
a decision, a regret, a moment we never fully brought to rest
it doesn’t stay in the past.
It can show up quietly.
In a pause.
In a second thought.
In a moment where something is held back.
Completion is not about going back to fix what happened.
It is something more immediate than that.
A way of becoming present to what still holds our attention and allowing it to come to rest.
When that happens, there is often a natural sense of availability.
And from that place, something new can open.

Why does one piece of criticism stay with us longer than a dozen compliments?
In my latest article, I unpack what psychologists call the Negativity Bias—our brain’s built-in tendency to focus on threats, critique, and fear over support, joy, and opportunity.
But here’s the good news: You are not your brain. You can learn to notice this response—and gently guide your focus toward clarity, creativity, and purpose.
I also share practical tools to help shift from anxiety to appreciation, including a journaling prompt that takes just five minutes a day.
This is about working with your brain, not against it.
