It's been hard to find a moment in this relentlessly crushing socio-political news cycle to find a moment to share this thing I'm proud of and happy about. But it's on the books now and official and time doesn't stop even in difficult periods.
Last year, when the Founder and I were traveling in Italy, she got very excited about the idea of doing The International Readers of Homer readings in Latin in Rome somehow. We didn't have any connections or develop the idea much, just drove around and buzzed about it, as we did.
She would be amazed and moved that there will be a Memorial Reading in her honor next summer in Rome, in Latin, Ancient Greek, Italian, and the languages of the world at a place called the Vivarium Novum, one of the preeminent schools of ancient language and culture in the world, in Frascati, Italy - one of the hilltop castle towns overlooking the sparkling lights of the Roman valley.
We have a beautiful group of people working on it.
Caroline Alexander, the first female translator of the Iliad in English, whose editing Kathryn edited for our Grace Cathedral reading (which we will use again), will be there. God, we'd love it if you'd consider coming too - if there's any chance on the planet that that would line up for you.

Homer’s Iliad Marathon Reading Experience
Description:
This unique experience features the first complete translation of the poem in English by a woman, the noted classics scholar Caroline Alexander. Readers and listeners will experience the noble music of Homer, carried down through the ages, now in Alexander’s rich poetic voice.
In a contemporary take on the oral tradition, participants take turns reading passages from the poem. Over the course of the day, the audience hears the tragedy, folly and horrors of the Trojan War and may be surprised to find how relevant this classic poem is in our modern age. Caroline Alexander herself will read the invocation in Homeric Greek.
Ticket includes:
-All-day access to Grace Cathedral
-General seating to hear the live full reading
-Live performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Susan Jane Matthews, organist
-Mediterranean boxed lunch & dinner from Za'atar of San Francisco
-Refreshments during the day including coffee, water, fruit, half sandwiches, etc.
-Opportunity to walk the Grace Cathedral labyrinths
