SAYC Salt Run Flyers Dragonboat Team

Tomorrow is Race Day in Leesburg…the Salt Run Flyers are there…loading up on carbs Friday evening and ready to race Saturday morning. All the best tomorrow and Paddles up! ( thanks for the photos, Bill D)

Wht a fun afternoon the Salt Run Flyers and significant others spent yesterday at team founders, Geri and Jamie’s lovely home! Thanks for your generous and kind hospitality.

What a great day of celebrating competition, friendship and…of accepting the wins & losses when they come.
The Inverness races were interesting with conditions deteriorating as the afternoon progressed. We did not medal, but competed strongly and with determination and fortitude. Our team has spirit and strength in our races and in our bonds of friendship. Congratulations to the Salt Run Flyers who continue to grow in strength, technique and team work.

And the day begins! The first race is done… our first race is race #10. A beautiful morning in Inverness.

Wow…what a great representation of the Salt Run Flyers in the St. Patrick’s Day parade yesterday. Thanks to all who participated, and a special Thank You to Stella for the amazing Dragonboat she created! The Yacht Club won a trophy for “ Best Float(s)” and the Dragonboat Team was an integral part of that win. Thanks also to Alison and Linda, who were the Yacht Club’s parade coordinators this year…almost 40 members and friends helped give SAYC a first win!

Dan Floryan passed away suddenly and will be missed by so many. A past Commodore and very active club member, Dan was also one of the original members of The Salt Run Flyers. A bit of trivia many do not know…it was Dan who suggested the name, Salt Run Flyers for our team…he will always be in our hearts. Paddles Up to Dan!

Thank you to a great crew that spruced up the Dragonboats this week…practices resume on Tuesday! Paddles up!

The Salt Run Flyers enjoyed a great season start up meeting this evening with 26 in attendance. Boat clean up time is next week and practices will begin on the 17th with our first race scheduled for March 28th. Reach out if interested in joining our practices!
