Not with a mass message. A real check-in. Send a text. Pick up the phone. Grab coffee. Go fishing. Ask how they’re doing.

25 years ago, September 11 changed our country.

Today we remember those who lost their lives, the first responders who ran toward danger, the families forever changed and the men and women whose service was shaped by what followed.

For many veterans and first responders in our community, this day carries a personal weight.

We will never forget.

Yesterday, we announced an exciting next step in our work to better understand and validate the impact of therapeutic kayak fishing.

Heroes on the Water is partnering with Texas State University on a pilot research study examining how participation in our therapeutic programs may affect stress-related biomarkers, including cortisol and testosterone.

This research will help us move beyond self-reported experiences and begin building a deeper understanding of what happens physiologically when participants spend time on the water.

It’s an important step in strengthening the evidence behind nature-based therapeutic recreation, and a milestone we’ve been working toward for years.
