Create lag by pushing the grip away, rather than trying to hold an angle with your wrist.

If you twist your feet clockwise in the backswing it will be easier for your hips to get forward (toward the target). Experiment with how hard to twist them. Rory probably does this with the irons too it’s just not as easy to see because the swing is slower and shorter.
If your setup is good, the flop shot can be pretty easy.
F = forward ball position
L = lean head ahead of ball
O = open clubface
P = place hands on grip (grip the club)
S = swing on shoulder line
Trying to bow the left wrist at impact makes the swing into more of a punch shot. Especially with a strong left hand grip want to have some cup at impact and definitely just after impact.
The release is not that much of a twisting of the grip. If you look at pros from shaft parallel in the downswing to thru swing the face is up and down. Try this slow you'll feel the grip is quite and you are pushing more on the side of the grip. That is what we want.
Allow the left shoulder to go more up and to the right in transition. This will shallow the club. When you do this the hips will slide towards the target and create a reverse C look from a face on view.
If you pull a putt it's usually for these 2 reasons.
1. Not aimed where you think you are. Pick a closer target.
2. Arms and body are glued together and open. Let arms swing more independently.
If I added a third it would be to check if your putter face is closed.
Learn the arm motion first. It will get you better quicker in the short term and great building block for the long term.
You'll gain speed, correct body motion, and contact.
Get really good at this with your feet together then you can add your body.
If you feel like your takeaway is too far inside, here are 2 fixes. You can do both at the same time.
Some great players actually have the clubhead slightly inside the hands when the club is level with the ground—I like that especially if you have a strong right-hand grip.
But if you think yours is too inside, do these 2 drills.
One of the biggest things that determines your club path is your chest (sternum) vs your hips in the downswing.
People talk about the arms all the time when it comes to changing your path.
And yes — the arms matter… but if this chest/hip relationship is in a good spot, your arms will naturally be able to work in a good spot too.
At impact, every good player has their chest slightly behind their hips.
So if you’re hitting pulls (path too far left), try this:
✅ Get your chest a little more behind your hips at impact.
You can pull the ball for a bunch of reasons, but this is the first thing I’d check—and usually the most important fix.
At impact the hands are still on the right side of the chest. It looks like they are on the left, but thats just because they turned their body.
Main takeaway is just to avoid trying to make them look forward by thrusting hands toward the target.
