"Your spirit is the true shield."- Morihei Ueshiba Welcome to Aikido of Minnesota, a World Aikido Aikikai Inc. (WAAI) dojo. We train under the direction of Rev.

We provide training in the art and spirit of Aikido through a supportive, family atmosphere. Zenko N. Okimura, 7th Dan Shihan, board Chairman, founder, and Chief Technical Advisor of WAAI. Through Okimura Shihan we maintain a direct connection to Hombu Dojo in Japan.

There is a special beauty in the quiet, dark dojo.

I once asked Okimura Shihan about how we might incorporate O’Sensei’s teachings into class. He described a practice called ho-wa, which might translate something like parable or wisdom teaching. So, we close class with chimes of the singing bowl and a reading from O’Sensei, to meditate on a few words of wisdom to take with us from the dojo. We just flip open the book to a random page, and today’s teaching hit home. “Do not look upon this world with fear and loathing. Bravely face whatever the gods offer.”

Feeling grateful for teachers - who give of their time and hearts - who help us discover our best selves (and give tired parents an hour of quiet time!)

Reminder from O’Sensei as we return to the dojo. Grateful for all those in our Aikido family maintaining peace in our own realms and nurturing life. Well, and fiercely trying to kill the COVID. Hey, who’s perfect? @ Aikido Minnesota

Longing for the simple joy of being on the mat together, to move and blend together, to intentionally break down the barriers between us. Keep practicing your aiki-taiso, enjoy the pause to meditate and reflect. As O’Sensei said, “Be grateful for hardships and setbacks... dealing with such obstacles is an essential part of the Art of Peace.”

We practice Aikido, roughly translated as "the way of harmonious spirit." The non-competitive martial art develops self-awareness and self-defense through development of a stable core and defusing threats in the most humane and efficient way possible. Mary Olympia Sensei is teaching an introductory series for women beginning March 3.

Kangeiko day 2! As Steve Sensei said to open class - on this leap day, which brings harmony to the calendar, it is appropriate that we practice Aikido together. @ Aikido Minnesota
