Gillian hasn’t danced with us long, but has successfully placed in every competition since dancing with us! She is a hardworking individual (Check out all the activities she has on her plate!). We are so glad that our home competition will be your last before college starts. We know you will shine bright. ✨

Looking back on our day in St. Louis! The dancers kept their spirits up despite the rain 🌧️ that threatened to send us indoors and for adapting to a new stage orientation for the Sword. ⚔️ Way to go dancers!

I share a little about the behind the scenes process of creating my new logo. My best advice is find someone you trust and who listens to your dreams. was that person for me! Thank you for your patience with me throughout this process. Rhianna from 2017 who first opened the studio is so proud of all I’ve accomplished today! 🐸🌸

We had a successful competition weekend in St. Louis! Both dancers stamped! Our Beginner dancer was able to show off and dance confidently in her brand new kilt! Our Novice dancer was also able to dance confidently in her new vest with a hidden unicorn for good luck! 🦄 💖 We’ll be fine tuning a few things before our home competition in less than two weeks 🤗

I am so excited to announce our new logo! 📣 This has been such a thoughtful process and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you! I want to highlight for listening to all my feedback and creating something beyond my imagination. I am so grateful for the ease in collaboration and Nick’s artistry. 🌈 More info to come on the behind the scenes process…

We’re trying something new to add variety to class! Quick choreography to challenge our dancers’ creativity and their memorization skills.

This! As a dancer myself, I have struggled with many injuries and some chronic pain. However, doing the work in PT and continuing maintenance exercises for prevention really helps! For a whole year I needed to dance in tennis shoes due to plantar fasciitis pain. After working in PT to manage my symptoms and (literally) relearning how to walk I am back to dancing (mostly) pain free! — It’s all about management!

Corrections help us improve technique and character as well! We believe all our dancers can handle the corrections given to them. 💪

Don’t let corrections get you down. Only let them make you better 🩷

Achievement is more than attaining a goal. There’s so much work involved that goes into the achievement. Hours of practice, lots of showing up even when things get tough, and the time spent in preparation for competition. We celebrate all wins: learning a new dance, focusing in class on a difficult day, and most recently leveling up from Beginner to Novice!

Storytime: How I fell in love with Highland dance 💁‍♀️ My name is Rhianna and I own Step Spring Leap Highland Dance Studio. I started the studio in 2017, but my dance journey started before I was even a thought! My parents met dancing through folk dance groups in the KC area. My dad was a co-founder of one of the groups they were part of, the Welsh Folk Dance Society of Greater Kansas City. I grew up walking and dancing simultaneously, probably. 😂 I danced all over my kitchen as a kid and that led to Highland lessons at age six. I have performed and competed all over the US and have qualified for the National Championships. I have made friends and connections worldwide. The most important thing that I have gained has been leadership skills. I have held executive positions on both our dance Association board and the KC St. Andrew Society Board which has helped in all areas of my life. Highland has gifted me so much that I cannot fathom to contain in a single Instagram post. Contact me to see what Highland has to offer you or your child!
