Join the St Petersburg Three-Quarter Century Softball Club (Kids and Kubs) in preparation for its 97th season. Summer Softball sessions at North Shore Park every Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 AM-11:00
Try-outs are NOW available for the season that begins on Tuesday, October 29. Take this opportunity to play yourself into shape for a slow-pitch competition this fall. Bring your glove and shoes (Club has bats) to join the fun. Players are needed to fill all positions for the 26-27 championship season.
Both men and women are eligible to play. Men must be 74 and women 73 before the start of the regular season. Interested persons must complete an application. Dues are $125.00 annually.
The Club consists of four teams that compete against each other throughout the season (named the Kids, Kubs, Kats, and Kolts). Board-selected teams assemble in late October after players for the upcoming season have been verified. Players will be notified of their captain and team. The captain will assign you to a position on the team (depending on the situation, players may play several positions throughout the season).
All regular-season games are played at North Shore Field on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 9:30 AM. The regular season runs from the end of October to mid-April.
Currently, off-season batting practice and pickup games are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 9:00 AM. It is recommended to play off-season pickup games to develop skills for the regular season. Also, it is recommended to do stretching exercises beforehand. Blowing out a knee or hamstring in early workouts can happen if you don't take it easy.
Player uniforms include white and red game shirts and short blue pants. Long blue pants are optional but recommended for chilly days. Additionally, players wear long white pants and traditional black bow ties for ceremonies (such as Opening Day). Game shirts are purchased through the Club. Other articles of clothing are the player's responsibility to purchase directly. A player number will be assigned to you. You will need to complete a Uniform Request Form for game shirts.
Players selected for opening-day rosters will need to pass a minimum skills test before the start of the season. This includes catching a ball thrown 65 feet, hitting a ball thrown over the middle of the plate 3 out of 5 pitches, throwing a ball 50 feet, and running the bases in 30 seconds or less. Off-season batting and pickup games are good times to practice these skills.
Interested Players, contact Mike Vander Syde, St. Petersburg Three-Quarter Century Softball Club (aka) Kids and Kubs, at 727-249-2496
