Many thanks to the volunteers from Raymond James who did some great work at the SPTC this week. As part of their Raymond James Cares program they donate their time and efforts to non-profits all across the area, and this year Tennis Center was fortunate to get a hand.
Shout-out to SPTC member and Raymond James employee David Lesser for securing this great group to help with some cleaning and beautification projects, and to SPTC Board member Marylou Kolenda and her husband Rick for identifying the projects and coordinating the groups efforts.
We appreciate all of you "RayJayers" (Madhavi Lakshmipuram, Dina Simpson, Bisma Balouch, Joseph Viele, Viswanatha Varma Nunduri and David Lesser) for helping to make the Tennis Center a better place!!!

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Their courage and dedication have shaped the nation we cherish.
As we enjoy this day on and off the courts with family and friends, let’s take a moment to reflect on their legacy and express our deepest gratitude.
From all of us at the SPTC, thank you to our heroes and their families. We are forever grateful.

Today, a few friends and staff took SPTC's "Weekend Front Desk Guy Extraordinaire" James out for a lunch to celebrate his graduation from High School and his planned enrollment at FGCU (go Eagles!) in the fall.
James has been a real asset to the Tennis Center, and luckily for us he will still be working for us for the next couple of months, checking people in at the Front Desk on the weekends, stringing rackets, and even helping with the summer camp Tennis programs.
If you are playing this weekend, make sure you congratulate James on on his graduation, and wish him best luck in future endeavors!!

It is with heavy hearts that we notify all of you of the unexpected passing of our good friend Michael Schroeder. As many of you know, Mike was a strong supporter of the St. Pete Tennis Center, serving on our Board of Directors and organizing a Tuesday morning tennis group.
Mike had a real gift in his ability to transfer thoughts into words. He spent part of his career as a journalist for the Wall Street Journal. Even though his term as a board member at the Tennis Center had recently ended, Michael continued to co-author the SPTC newsletter, including the one many of you received just a few weeks ago. He wrote spotlight articles about members at the club, commentary on the rules of the game and notifications about upcoming events.
Those of us who got to know him personally knew he cared deeply for his family and his friends, had a great sense of humor and LOVED the game of tennis.
Mike’s family is asking that anyone who wants to make contributions consider a scholarship donation to the “Michael Schroeder Scholarship Fund” for the benefit of the Courier Kids Program. Please make checks payable to “The Tennis Foundation of Saint Petersburg.” This is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible contribution. You can either use the link below or send a donation to the front desk at the Tennis Center.
He will be greatly missed.

Last night at the Tennis Center “Sanjay's 3.5ish Singles Group” not only filled 12 courts with 24 players for two hours of competitive singles play, but celebrated Cinco de Mayo just a little bit early (Cinco d’Uno??) with tasty social get-together after the end of play, featuring food from Nueva Cantina along with classic Mexican beers and tequila drinks.
The group includes guys and gals in the 3.0+ to 4.0- level, and has grown from about 10 people and it started a year ago to over 80 on the roster. If you're ever down at the Tennis Center on a Friday night, you will see the players out there battling each other, with the winners of the “First to Five” set moving up a court and the losers moving down to take on the next opponent.
Thank you SO MUCH to SPTC Member Sanjay Gosalia for doing an incredible job of growing this group, and thank you Jack Bailey and the Tennis Center for providing some excellent refreshment after the play last night!

Word on the street is that SPTC's own Isabella Jank and her teammates at Shorecrest won their High School District championship last week. Way to go to Isabella and the whole team!!!
