To my TNT kids, you are why I love my job! Oh, my adults are amazing too! But the kids that attend open gym, this is for you, I love you all! I'm always so impressed by what you all accomplish. I appreciate the stories you tell me, the messages you send me about your life, the "therapy" talks we have and the many laughs we share. Workouts should be fun, keeping a healthy lifestyle should be motivating, enjoy the process.

It's hard to put into words, but the environment within the TNT walls is special. It welcomes the ability to adapt to the day you're having (wanna lift heavy, ok... need an easy emotional release day, cool... want to learn a new skill and have fun, let's go!) The respect, encouragement and communication between each of you makes me proud. It's a special space that I protect so you all can push yourselves to be your best! I don't get many photos or videos while the gym is active because I am engaged with the workouts and talking to you, so I rarely share about what the gym is, but to those that attend, you freakin' rock! 🧡🤘

1. They have a positive relationship with food. They know that food is nourishing, allowing them to feel amazing and achieve their goals, and keeping them healthy. They are thankful for food. They eat slowly to enjoy the flavors and smells. They drink plenty of water.
(They are not stressed over calories, they don't cut out foods)

2. They move their bodies regularly. Depression and anxiety are removed my movement. I understand medication may be needed, but once health needs are met with proper eating, exercise and having a daily purpose for action, medicine is usually no longer needed. A body that does not move is a breeding ground for illness and decline. People who are happy just know that they need to move to naturally feel better.
(Doctors tend not to ask about nutrition and movement before giving medicine, typical marketing wants you to believe you need to rely on medicine for life just to feel decent)

3. They pay attention to their day. How they feel, their emotions, how they are spending their time and energy with purpose. They use their senses to notice details like colors, smells and tastes.
(Verse reacting to everything everyone does or says and not acknowledging all you successfully did in the day)

4. They take time for quiet. Not wastefully scrolling the internet and social media. They are not afraid to hold space for their own thoughts and feelings. They ask themselves what they want instead of numb to it. They can balance stress by knowing how to calm down (not all the time, perfection is not the goal here, awareness is).
(Verse always feeling rushed, chaotic, and putting everyone else's needs above their own)

5. They speak positively to themselves. Of course there's negative thoughts, this is not about perfection or faking positivity, but they know that words matter and they acknowledge the good. When they are down, they realize it and make adjustments. They don't concern themselves with shape shifting to please everyone, they work to build their own confidence.
(They don't make jokes at their expense, they don't sabotage or beat themselves up with constant guilt and shame)

For TNT, this is Rest Week. We take a break between each of our training seasons so we can rest and start fresh. For many families, it's also spring break. It's so important to slow down, reset. The body needs it. The mind thrives with it. While for many people, this is an entire week dedicated to taking a break, you don't have to take a week, you don't have to take a trip. You can take a nap. You can take a quiet bath. You can clear your evening one day this week so you can slow down, enjoy a sit down meal, and pause so all the days stop blurring together.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck, then you NEED to take a break. Step back. Stop forcing, stop rushing. I get it, sometimes we need to just grind and hustle because there really is so much to get done. You will burn out quickly though if you don't balance rest with all that outwardly drive. Creativity comes when we slow down. Answers we need suddenly strike when we slow down enough to listen. The body will feel better, get stronger, and lower inflammation when we step back from hard exercise. I promise, every single time someone is pushing hard in the gym to make progress, then they take a break, they always come back better. It's not magic, it's how we're built, but it certainly feels like magic because, how can taking a step back actually move the needle forward... it just does, trust the process.

Our American society doesn't allow for us to slow down. We add feelings of guilt, shame and weakness if we admit we need to slow down. Don't fall victim to that insane belief! You need sleep. You need to change routine occasionally. You need easy pace days. Especially if you're not feeling good, or low energy, or mental fog; learn to sit and listen. Don't fear the silence. Stop filling it with noise and effort. Enjoy the quiet; there's magic and answers and good feelings there.

When you're feeling out of energy, in a funk, depressed, unmotivated:
Drink water.
Eat more protein.

It's a very simple solution. If your body is not getting enough protein and water it can't do basic functions. You're not going to feel your best. Starting your day with protein and water can dramatically improve how you feel throughout the entire day. If you struggle to get going in the mornings, don't just grab caffeine, get protein and water. If you're not feeling motivated for your workouts and don't have the energy to start, eat protein and drink some water. Feeling somber, depressed, or just 'blah,' grab a protein snack and drink some water. Don't make this harder than it has to be, you can quickly feel so much better! Google "quick protein snacks" and choose something you enjoy. You don't have to make big meals all the time. I promise, add more protein and more water to your daily routine and you'll notice everything gets better :)

If you want to keep track, try to get 20-30 grams of protein per meal. Most adults need a minimum of 60 grams per day. Anything under that and your mood stays low, energy is low, immune system is low and your metabolism is low. So if you want to feel better, eat protein and drink water (60 ounces minimum per day). I promise it works! If you have any questions specifically for your needs, leave a comment or send a message so I can help you out!

Dr. Chris stopped by TNT today. No sitting happening during our meetings.

Chris has been my go-to physical therapist when clients need answers I don't have. Him and I have an awesome combo program where you get to work with both of us to get rid of pain. We've been working together for over a year now. More great things to come. He has an office downtown St Pete.
