here's the Nakatomi Plaza elevator pitch: Imagine the most unhinged ska-punk-whatever band you can think of comprised by a group of people that are captured and forced to listen to music from every genre possible (first wave ska, nyhc, stadium crust, cumbiacore, midwest emorave, teknopunc, etc.) a la Robot Chicken meets A Clockwork Orange, you'd get Hans Gruber and the Die Hards! There's something weird and wild and fun happening in central Texas it feels like, and I for one am here for it. Slap them on a show or festival with Jeff Rosenstock, AJJ, Days n Daze, The Front Bottoms, Streetlight Manifesto, Voodoo Glow Skulls, JER, Flaming Tsunamis, Andrew WK, and get lost in their vibe. Let's start doing some band spotlights with probably the one I'm most psyched to have on this year's pre-fest, Toys That Kill. I feel like most attendees of Fest are pretty familiar with them. They've been around since 1999 when their predecessor FYP called it a day (for the first time), started by pro-skateboarder and Recess Records head honcho Todd Congelliere, playing hyperactive punk tinged with surf and a sprankle of psych that starts and keeps the party going. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first time they've played Florida, or at least Tampa, outside of Fest since 2012? Don't miss out on the action, Thursday October 23rd at Magnanimous Brewing!

today I'd like to shine a light on Long Island's Godseyes. This is pounding, chaotic, pi**ed off hardcore? metalcore? Maybe you've been lucky to see them before at a Locust Parade show. They remind me of bands like Meatwound, Horsewhip, Walled City, and Plague Spitter. A better person well-versed in the genre could probably do a better job of RIYL, but i'm doing my best over here. Every photo and video I've seen of them look like their sets just go OFF hard!
