MUSCLE OF THE WEEK: GASTROCNEMIUS π¦΅
You probably just call it your calf.
But that familiar muscle doing so much of the work behind every step has a name: the gastrocnemius.
The gastrocnemius is the large, visible muscle at the back of your lower leg. It crosses both the knee and ankle joints and plays an important role in helping you walk, run, climb stairs, jump, and push off the ground.
Think about how much you ask of your calves every day.
β³ Walking 18 holes
πΎ Moving around the tennis court
π Chasing down a pickleball shot
π Going for a run
πΆ Or simply walking through your day
Your gastrocnemius is working through all of it.
When your calves feel tight or restricted, you may notice:
β’ Less comfortable movement through the ankle
β’ Tightness when walking or climbing stairs
β’ A restricted feeling when you push off with each step
β’ Less fluid movement during your favorite activities
And unlike last weekβs psoas, this is one you can usually pinpoint pretty quickly... you KNOW when your calves are tight!
At Stretch Zone SSI, practitioner-assisted stretching is designed to help improve flexibility and range of motion, so you can keep moving through the activities you enjoy.
Because every step needs a good push-off.
Your FIRST session is always on us!
