Setting goals… and following through with them, can feel pretty impossible as a busy mom with so many responsibilities.

So many times we have the best of intentions to make changes, just to end up giving up after a few days or weeks because of how much we already have on our plates.

This week I’ll be teaching busy moms tips on how to set goals that you can ACTUALLY follow through on, setting you up for success.

And stay tuned for an upcoming Self-Care Challenge!

So many of us have complicated relationships with sugar... and food in general. And then we're expected to help our kids have healthy relationships with food?
This week on Self-Care Parenting Live I shared my best tips on how to help your kids manage their sugar intake. Just in time for the holidays.

Here are the main takeaways:

✨Evaluate your food and eating habits and beliefs, as an individual and your overall family culture.

What do your food habits look like right now? Take an honest look, without shame; we've all got our things we do well and not so well.

What do you believe about eating, food, different types of food, how much to eat, etc.? What messages have you received over the years about food? Do you think they're helpful and/or healthy?

Because in reality anything in the extreme is harmful--even if they're considered positive habits!

✨Explore what your (and your family's) IDEAL relationship with food and sugar looks like.

Does it align with your habits? What messages do you want to give your kids about food and sugar? Remember: you can't teach your kids these messages if you don't hold them for yourself as well.

When might you want to make exceptions to your ideals? Again, anything in extreme isn't healthy. Think through when it might be okay to bend your rules, and enjoy those moments!

What is outside of your control? Don't drive yourself crazy trying to get the school system to change their menus or grandparents to give more veggies. Unless you have lots of time and that's super important to you.

✨Make changes for you first or as a family together.

Again, kids are going to learn best by what you model for yourself. So make sure you're making these changes! Either do it first and model it, or do it as a family on a shared mission. Make sure you have periodic conversations about the values you are trying to instill.

Let's be real: we've all got our struggles. Life is HARD.

I know I've had my fair share of struggles. Trauma, divorce, mental health struggles, parenting high needs kids. That's just naming a few.

And I know I'm not alone.

There's always someone who has it better and always someone who has it worse. Either way, fair or not, we've been dealt what we've been dealt and it's up to us to decide how to respond to it.

But that doesn't mean we just lay down defeated. Let's normalize the challenges, while also rising above.

Because at the end of the day, how do we want our kids to respond to life challenges? Do we want them to give up, beat themselves up, lash out at people? Or do we want them to learn to take care of themselves, set boundaries, and handle issues when they arise?

This week on Self-Care Parenting Live I talked about how to build up your own resilience as a mom handling life's crazy challenges.

Here are the main takeaways:

✨ Create a life vision for yourself.

What do you want your life to be like? Look like? Feel like? What do do YOU want to be like?

If this is too hard, think about what you'd like your kids to be like when they grow up. What you want for them for their lives.

The reality is you can't teach your kids how to attain this if you can't SHOW them how to do it for YOU. So dream big. Seriously, it's what's best for your kids.

✨ Learn to listen to yourself, feel your feelings, and give yourself what you need.

So many of us are running around ignoring our feelings and needs and doing what we think we "should" or "have" to do.

I call bu****it. It's time to radically prioritize our own needs so we can show up as the best versions of ourselves.

Sometimes that means leaving the pile of dishes to go to bed early. And that's okay.

✨ Find the AND.

Life is hard. That's a fact. But how we feel about it and respond to it can change.

Find what you have control over and where you have a choice. Lean into that while acknowledging the pain and hardship.

You've got this. ❤

I remember a period of my life where managing my mental health felt like a full-time job.

I couldn’t imagine what life would be like not having to constantly be focusing on self-care to keep symptoms at bay.

Thankfully, between my training as a therapist and my perseverance, I’m in a much different place now.

Although not perfect, my mental health is in a pretty good place overall.

However, I have my ups and downs, as we all do as human beings.

Currently I’m in a challenging spot where I am needing to prioritize my own self-care to get myself back up to baseline.

This week I’ll be sharing my personal tips on how I manage my own mental health as a therapist and mom with PTSD.

Because doing the whole life thing, and especially the parenting thing, is no easy task when on empty. And even the professionals go through tough times.

Let’s normalize mental health challenges and celebrate each other as we stay committed to rising up and raising a next generation of great kids. ❤

All too often moms are running around like crazy trying to make the holidays special for everyone else.

In the meantime, we end up running ourselves into the ground, feeling depleted and resentful, and teaching our kids some unhealthy gender norms in the process.

This week I did a free training on how us moms can create joy for ourselves during the holidays.

Here are the main takeaways:

1. Fill your own cup first.

Don’t give away what you don’t have. Radically fill your cup so you can give from the overflow. I know, easier said than done. But do your best. It will make the rest so much easier.

2. Take some time to fantasize about what YOU want this holiday season.

I know you’ve already thought about what you’re going to do for everyone else. But have you taken some time to think about what would be meaningful to you?

Chances are, what you want isn’t so unattainable. And if it is, you’re burnt out and go back to step one. 😉

3. Ask for what you need or find a way to do it for yourself.

It’s all too common that us women secretly hope someone will read our minds and surprise us with what we’re looking for. Unfortunately, others can’t read our minds and there might be bigger picture gender norms at play. It is our own job to ask for what we want, to be clear, direct, and kind. Chances are, our loved ones will be happy to do something special for us.

And if it’s something you want to do for you, find a way to make it a priority!

By modeling for your kids how to prioritize your own joy during the holidays you can teach them how to be generous, not run themselves into the ground putting others first, and you can combat entitlement.

So prioritizing your own joy is not only important for you, it’s important for your kids.

Share with me and the world: How can you prioritize your own joy this holiday season? 👇

Us moms really want to make the holidays feel special for our families.

But more often than not it turns into running ourselves into the ground putting everyone else first, and not actually feeling joy.

But who’s making sure the holidays are special for us too?

Unfortunately, probably no one.

Let’s reclaim the holidays and find joy for ourselves again…. Bonus: it’s actually the secret for raising grateful and happy kids. ❤

I’ve been MIA.

Let’s just keep it short and sweet and say I’ve been going through some s**t. Through this challenging time I have given myself permission to focus on my foundation and my biggest priorities:

❤ my own self-care and well-being
❤ setting boundaries
❤ connecting with and supporting my kids
❤ supporting my clients

Everything else has taken a backseat.

And I’m glad I allowed this for myself, because now I’m back stronger than ever. 💪

More determined than ever to raise great kids in a world that feels divided, hateful, and scary. To heal myself and others so we can change the world for the better for the next generation.

✨Who’s with me?✨ 🙋‍♀️

This also means I’ll be doing my free trainings again. Here are some topics that are on my mind. Vote for your favorites or drop a comment (or send a DM) with what’s on your mind around taking care of yourself as a mom or raising great kids. I’m here to help. ❤
