This is a course we wanted to run last season, but felt like we needed more time to develop it into what it really needs to be.

We designed Planning, Guiding, and Leading to give you skills, tools, and decision making abilities to not just further your own paddle adventures, but also bring others along with you.

We’re really excited about this course, and hope that if you’re looking to do more with paddling, and/or share it with others, that you’ll take advantage of it!

Please reach out with any questions about what it’ll cover or if it’s right for you!

Link to sign up is in our story and in the bio.

Happy Paddling!

This was one of our favorite photos from last summer. It’s not just the blue sky, and calm water, and beautiful sail boats gracing the background.

It’s knowing that they were experiencing a part of Salem so often overlooked: The quiet coves, the rocky points, the open views across the water.

Salem is a magical place, whose beauty extends beyond the shoreline.

Can I share a quick story? It’s a little embarrassing:

In my first year working as a sea kayak guide at Essex River Basin Adventures (ERBA), I took my parents, who were visiting from New York, for a paddle around the river basin. The plan was to paddle around Choate Island, through the winding salt marsh, and use the cut that goes behind the island at low tide to get back to our launch point.

Yet once behind the island, I couldn’t find the cut. Several dead ends later— and after one quickly (but not quickly enough ) abandoned attempt to drag the kayaks through knee-deep mud—we gave up, turned the boats around, and paddled the long way back around the basin.

When we (finally) got back to the launch, the owner of ERBA—and basin expert—Ozzie was waiting to pick us up. When I relayed my story to him, including my bewilderment at not being able to find the cut, he replied, simply and non-judgmentally (but with perhaps a bit of a smirk): There is no cut that goes behind Choate at low tide.

I had planned the perfect paddle, but under false assumptions.

In our latest blog, I’ve outlined some tips to help you choose the best route for your paddle adventure; one that won’t leave you feeling embarrassed in front of your parents AND your boss (they were each very gracious about the whole thing).

Link for blog is in our bio—as always, feel free to leave any thoughts or questions here or on the blog!
