Can anyone correctly guess what exercise Sam is about to perform?
Evan just turned 20, is a beginner with 7 weeks of weightlifting training with us, and no prior experience. He played basketball for two years in high school and a few sports in junior high. I predict he will compete nationally in 18-24 months.

Every meet can have a different goal. Sometimes, it's the medals, sometimes it's the PR, and sometimes it's to perform to a standard.
Michael Habib has only been weightlifting for two years, and one year with us (including his first meet). The goal for the previous meet was to qualify for Under 23 Nationals, which required him to PR both lifts. Not only did he succeed, he beat the requirement by 5 kgs and unexpectedly qualified for his first and only chance to compete at Junior Nationals as well. The last meet was especially important, because in the two meets prior, he failed to complete a sn**ch or total due to nerves.
More than anything else, completing your opening sn**ch at a meet requires a calm and focused mind. So the goal for Nationals was to replicate his mental breakthrough at the previous meet, and complete all of his sn**ches with the proper mental state.
Michael was physically unwell a couple hours before the meet and had trouble keeping any food down. I was also concerned he was not going to weigh enough to qualify for the 73kg class. But with the right mindset (and a good dose of Pepto Bismol), he weighed in over 67kgs and was one of only two athletes to hit 6/6 in his session. His final attempts were both 102+% lifts.
This is an outstanding achievement.
