That’s a wrap: The Panama Canal Cup - powered by Swish. And what an incredible tournament it turned out to be under the leadership of tournament director Tristan Greenlee!

About three years ago, pickleball in Panama began in a small, grassroots way, with local players slowly building a community. Inspired by Panama’s most iconic landmark, the organizers created a new annual tournament designed to bring together players from across Panama and all of Latin America.

This first edition became the largest pickleball tournament the country has ever hosted, with competitors aged 14 to 80 from nations including Panama, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Colombia, the United States, Canada, Nicaragua, Peru, Mexico, and Bermuda. Even in its inaugural year, the tournament sparked visible growth in pickleball around Panama City, especially on newly built courts made specifically for the event.

The long-term vision is to position Panama as a premier pickleball tourism destination, while partnering with Swish software to expand the tournament each year. Looking ahead, the organizers are committed to building Panama’s first purpose-built pickleball facility and, through their partnership with the nonprofit Peace in Pickleball, donating equipment and offering free clinics in low-income communities to inspire the next generation of Panamanian players.
