NEW DIVISIONS ADDED
In an effort to ensure more matches for all competitors, we have added new divisions.
Kachi-Nuki Promotion Matches:
This is similar to the Japanese belt promotion tournament. Often referred to as a ko-haku or batsu-dan tournament in the US. All eligible competitors line up by rank/age. The first two competitors have a shiai, the winner remains out to fight the next person in line. It ensures that you are able to compete against someone of a similar rank/age that can be used for your competitive resume for your next belt or dan promotion. Wins do not guarantee a promotion (all other requirements such as moral character, time in grade, etc. still must be met), and any promotion considerations will still be the responsibility of your home dojo to recommend, but we are going to add this tournament within a tournament to give people at all kyu and dan levels a chance at additional matches that can be used for your resumes for promotions.
Black Belt OPEN category:
This is open to ALL black belts and follows the traditional Judo philosophy that Judo need not be divided by divisions of weight or age. This is the ultimate test of skill for all black belts as you have to accept that there is always someone who is bigger or smaller, stronger or faster, younger or more experienced. It is up to YOU to determine which mix of attributes only you can exploit against all others to display your own Judo. We encourage all black belts to join this category for a chance to win a year's worth of bragging rights against all of your peer sensei 🤩🤩🤩

Sensei Flor and Sensei Maria attended the Keiko Fukuda Joshi Judo, Inc Camp in Denver this weekend where they had the opportunity to learn from Eiko Shepherd (hachidan) and Megumi Ishikawa (godan), along with nearly 50 other female participants. They said the camp was "increíble".
It is so great that they are able to continue their Judo training and education in an on-going effort to provide for our female (and male) athletes at USA Stars of Salt Lake City Judo Club
Special thanks to Tracy Crawford for organizing the event and Sensei Adam Thane Blackburn for his commitment to developing female athletes and coaches here in Utah Judo

Great performances yesterday by all of our competitors from Rocky Mountain Judo and USA Stars of Salt Lake City Judo Club at the Mike Couchigan Memorial Tournament in Las Vegas. Nine Judoka were in attendance from Salt Lake City, and we came back with 6 gold medals and 3 silvers. The silver medalists won all of their matches except when they met up with other competitors from our club in the finals. It was really a great day for everyone 🤩🤩🤩
The best match of the day may have been our very first match of the day between Isaac Velazquez and Nolan Chen. They went into golden score before Isaac finally prevailed, then Nolan won their next match in the best of 3, and Isaac won the 3rd match to take gold. It was so great to see our two youngest competitors, competing in their very first tournament. It was even more enjoyable to see how enthusiastic their parents and families were watching them compete, especially knowing the prestigious Judo family lines that they both come from 😍😍😍
