My Dear Jung Community,

In the last 4 seasons I have fallen in love with this special thing that we all do. The Jung Society of Utah is a place where we come to connect soul, heart, and world with interesting ideas and beautiful art, music, and poetry. After a long and incredible journey, it is time for me to step away from the Jung Society. New and energizing opportunities have come up that will be taking me out of state. I am off to new adventures!

This Friday’s event on Nov 14th will be my last as a member of the Jung Board. I can’t thank you enough for co-creating the magic that permeates these events. I hope you have enjoyed all the photography I’ve captured along the way. Thank you for gifting me your time and energy as we have crossed paths across nearly 50 events. 50!! What an incredible time, thank you all so much.

Cheers to living a life of adventure, intuition, and traversing our shadow, our light, and all the multiverses in between,

Chris Farmer

We’ll invite you to come with a short story from your life, one you could tell in roughly 3-5 minutes. Don’t overthink this; it can be literally anything, big or small, silly or serious – your first love, childbirth, chasing a dream, getting fired, adopting a cat. Just as long as it has some personal meaning to you. (If you feel stumped, you might listen to The Moth to spark some ideas.)

The workshop will play out in three parts:
(Gently) interrogating your story: I’ll teach you how to gently interrogate your story, get to the truest version of it, using principles I learned conducting interviews as a reporter.
Reconstructing your story: We’ll then talk about how to reimagine it, look at the ways the same facts can be used to tell (and live) very different stories. And apply that not just to the story you brought, but some of your deeper stories too.
Telling your story well: Finally, we’ll learn how to tell that story in a compelling way, based on principles I learned as a story coach for The Moth.

We’ll break you into small groups to do this work, inside a cocoon of confidentiality, care and respect. This is where the magic happens; I’ve done this workshop many times, and there is a strange and powerful magic that emerges in these groups, in just a short time. In the sharing of your story and the being witnessed. However, you have no obligation to share in the group; opting out is also a perfect choice.

My hope is that you’ll leave the weekend better able to see your stories. More courageous about questioning them. More able to tell better ones. And no longer captive to stories that don’t serve you. It’ll be fun. It’ll be scary (good-scary). Most of all, it’ll be liberating. I can’t wait to watch you transform.

Join us next Friday Nov 14th - this is going to be incredible

(From Karen) I’ve been helping people tell stories for 25 years. First, as an executive speechwriter, helping the powerful shape and sell the narratives that run the world – then deconstructing those same narratives as a reporter at NPR and This American Life. And I’ve taught countless people how to tell their own stories, as a professor and a Moth story coach.

What I’ve learned is this: the stories we tell and the stories we’re told, these become the rules that govern our lives. Individually and collectively.

The problem is, most of us aren’t even aware of them; it’s hard to see the water when you’re swimming in it. But stories have consequences – they convince us to pursue our dreams or confine us to a small life; elect corrupt leaders or resist them; say the hard thing or stay trapped.

Come hear Jon's incredible poetry on Friday Nov 14th!

Jon (Jonathan) is a cowboy poet artist and philosopher, a scientist at heart, a deep spiritual seeker. His work largely focuses on the human experience and all the many ways we translate that experience through our art, fashion, design, philosophy, health, fitness, politics, religion and so on. As a student of nature most if not all of his writings are inspired by the natural order of things, how nature is both perfect and imperfect and how we as humans beings mirror that same dichotomy as microcosms of the universe. His work is often crass whimsical rustic and playful, but always sincere in its attempt to put you the reader in the driver seat and call you back to yourself. Jon’s work is heavily inspired by eastern thought; voices like Alan Watts Osho Maharishi and Baba Ram Dass resonate as through line while he dances in themes inspired by the American West, skateboarding/surfing and lifestyle sports, film, hip-hop, graffiti and urban themes. Friends have called Jon a hippie jock or bougie hippie and those undertones of just being a dude also ring true in his work.
