Off-Season: Dylan Hoogerwerf

We caught up with for the second edition of our Off-Season campaign.

Q: What is your motivation in the off-season?

A: To be honest, it was really hard to stay motivated after a stressful year. When the season was done I focused a lot on stuff other then skating (tattoo, tiktok, clothing) but seeing all my team mates getting back in shape is what motivates me the most to start doing the same.

Q: How do you spend your time when you're not training?

A: This year I am really busy next to my training, I am gonne be owner of a tattoo shop in Heerenveen end of August. That brings alot of stuff I need to arrange. Also I am doing some collabs with different clothing brands and making designs for them. And I spend alot of time making music together with my girlfriend.

Q: Where do you find your inspiration for your creative work and ideas?

A: Most of it on social media I follow alot of dope artists in clothing, tattoos or just designs. And throughout the day when I see something dope I just screenshot and save it for when I need inspiration for stuff I need to make.

Q: What do you look forward to most about this upcoming racing season?

A: I think the worldcup in Dordrecht. It’s always nice to skate in your own country and due Covid, my parents and family couldn’t see me skate in real life for 2 years.

"I believed in my talent but had no passion”

I had no desire to win and the results didn't matter to me. I just genuinely enjoyed skating. Strategizing and competing felt like a fun game, but giving my best was hard.

For the first time I set a goal for myself.
At the end of the 2022 Beijing Olympic trials I felt that I had missed out on an opportunity because I wasn't prepared.
It completely changed my attitude and led me towards becoming a goal oriented athlete.

When I finally earn my chance to stand on the Olympic stage, I proudly want to tell myself that I gave it my all regardless of the result.

I believe that good energy comes from laughter, so I like to laugh. I always want to give good vibes to the people around me with a smile and be able to grow together.

Skating became a sport that I look forward to everyday and it is something that I want to be the best at.

I’ve been blessed to have found something that I can completely lose myself in. Skating guides me to grow not only as an athlete but as an individual as well.

Watching UFC fights as well as soccer matches helps me improve my game. I love the passion and energy that sport brings out.

To me, there’s no such thing as losing.
You either win or learn.
Deal with it, adapt and overcome.
