Skyline High School Gym (Same as Usual) 1122 228th Ave SE, Sammamish 98075
**Doors open for check-in at 9 AM **Competition begins at 10 AM
Who is it for? Many students will be competing for the first time and we have divisions just for beginners. This tournament is for EVERYBODY: people of all different levels of skill, age, size and experience. We encourage all students to participate!
What schools are attending? True Martial Arts-Pine Lake of Sammamish, True Martial Arts-Overlake of Redmond, Trinity Martial Arts of Redmond Ridge and Northwest School of Martial Arts of Stanwood.
Order of events: First form, then demonstrations, next is team sparring, and the event concludes with individual sparring.
Spectators: The bleachers will be out, spectators are encouraged and welcome to cheer on their Martial Artist. Take pictures and video. Admission is free. Participants that are young children should be supervised by an adult. Spectators should observe in the bleachers away from the competition area. Please stay in the proscribed walkways.
Event T-shirt: The t-shirt can be worn while competing and all proceeds benefit the True Martial Arts scholarships. A limited number of T-shirts will sell at the event for $32.
Food: A volunteer operated lunch, snack and drink concession stand will be on site so that you don’t have to worry about bringing food or leaving the premises to go eat. Participants should not leave the premises until they’ve completed competition. If you leave the premises and miss your division, there will be nothing we will be able to do to for you.
Trophies: There will be over 300 trophies awarded at this year’s event.
Uniforms: Wear your formal jacket top for form competition. Uniforms should be clean and be fit to the correct size. For sparring, wear your white top or your T-shirt. You can also wear the tournament t-shirt during sparring competition.
Equipment: Bring your sparring gear. All students are required to have their own sparring gear. Everyone needs their own mouth guards and male competitors are required to wear groin cups for sparring. When everyone double checks to make sure they have all their own equipment in advance, sparring divisions run much more efficiently.
Tournament Rules: Rules will be distributed in advance to be gone over in classes, and also gone over at the event.
Judging/Questions/Appropriate Behavior: Our volunteer judges will be practicing in the weeks leading up to the tournament. They do the best they can. Arguing and heckling judges by spectators or competitors will not be tolerated. Please do not interrupt or disturb the competition. Please keep in mind our goal to promote good sportsmanship and to provide a positive experience for everyone involved. If you have any questions direct them towards tournament administrators at the announcers table.
How long will the tournament last? Some groups finish by 2 PM, higher ranking students usually finish around 4 PM.
