🐾 Sometimes a reactive dog doesn’t need LESS grooming… they need MORE consistency. 🐾

One thing I’ve learned from working with reactive, anxious, and difficult-to-groom dogs is that once-a-month grooming isn’t always enough in the beginning.

I’ve had dogs come to me who fought the brush, fought the clippers, didn’t want their feet touched, wouldn’t stand on the table—you name it. 😅

For some of those babies, I’ve recommended coming in more frequently for a period of time.

Not because they necessarily need a full groom every two weeks, but because they need the routine and repetition.

The more consistently we work together, the more they learn:

🐾 This is safe.
🐾 I know this person.
🐾 I know what happens here.
🐾 I know what’s expected of me.
🐾 And then… we go home. ❤️

Over time, something pretty amazing happens.

The dog that once fought the entire groom learns to stand and accept it.

Does that mean they never have another reaction? Nope. 😂 They’re still dogs, and they still have their moments.

But a quick, calm and confident redirection, followed by getting right back into our routine, can go a LONG way.

Then, once they’re comfortable and that routine is established, we can start spacing their appointments farther apart.

It isn’t about forcing a dog through a groom.

It’s about time, patience, trust, consistency and teaching them that grooming is simply a normal part of life.

Sometimes the biggest grooming transformations aren’t the before-and-after pictures.

They’re the dogs who finally realize…
