SOO BAHK DO® (“Way of the Striking Hand and Foot”) is a traditional Korean martial art with historical roots that date back thousands of years. A holistic art, it balances both “hard style” striking hand techniques and powerful kicking with soft “internal” breathing exercises, as well as grappling and self-defense practice. It was originally known as “Tang Soo Do,” a name retained by practitioners who left the original Moo Duk Kwan®(“School of Martial Virtue”) organization.

Founded by Grandmaster Hwang Kee in Korea following the end of World War II, the art was based on the idea that its practice could enhance individuals’ lives and lead to better human relations – thereby reducing conflict rather than contributing to it. Its aim is to better people’s lives through martial discipline. Strong individuals in Spirit and Body make strong communities, strong communities make strong nations, Strong and peaceful nations make a strong and peaceful world.
