Your shoulders are the joints where your upper-arm bones (humerus), shoulder blades (scapula), and collarbone (clavicle) meet. The humerus fits into the rounded socket of the scapula on each side of your body. Each shoulder is held in place by a group of four muscles and tendons, called a rotator cuff, which covers and protects the humerus and lets you raise and move your arm. Pain in your shoulder can have many causes. You might injure it in a fall or accident, or you could have overdone a chore like painting. Sometimes shoulder pain comes from a condition like arthritis. It can even stem from problems in other parts of your body, which is called referred pain. Dr. Gonzalez specializes in minimally Invasive Shoulder Surgery to include Simple and Complex Reconstructive Procedures, Instability Conditions, Impingement Problems and Rotator Cuff Disease and Tears. Tip for Avoiding Shoulder Injuries - Warm up - It is always good practice to build up to an exercise, like gradually increasing from a walk to a run. When returning to sports, it is important to start slowly and not try to jump straight back to the activity levels you were performing at during the end of your last season. Specifically with weight training, consult a trainer or stay within your comfort range before building up to your weight goals.

Did you know the number one rule of good joint health is don’t skip stretching! Stretching aids joint mobility and flexibility, so it’s easier on your knees when you run, jump and cut.
Stretching sessions should include the ankles and hips, too. If any part of your leg isn’t fully engaged before an athletic activity, it could put undue stress on your knees. . .
