Political candidates, like Beto, are going to incite more violence and even civil war, if they advance the idea that the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights can be trampled for political expediency. In the attached video, the responding officer was ill-prepared for what he encountered. Reminder: We need to live "aware" AND "prepared."

Another Reminder: When encountering a violent dirt-bag, we should never engage them toe-to-toe or wrestle with them. Pepper spray, or a now-legal-in-Texas collapsible baton, such as an ASP, should be our response to an unarmed but physically stronger assailant.

For us, our Every Day Carry (EDC) should include either police-grade pepper spray (such as SABRE Advanced Compact Pepper Spray), or, a small lightweight collapsible baton (such as the ASP LeverLoc Foam Airweight, or the ASP Agent Concealable Baton - 50cm).

We need to use our BRAIN and TOOLS to compensate for a physical disadvantage.

Thankfully, in this video the backup officers handled this situation fairly well. "Drop the gun,, bang." Followed by "bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-bang."

But still, they apparently shot for mass, not center-mass. This is a common mistake during deadly-force encounters.

The assailant in this video survived and was likely still a threat when they stopped shooting. This, too, is a good lesson for us. We shoot and keep shooting until there is no longer a threat. We don't shoot to kill, but we do shoot and continue to shoot until there is no longer a threat.

Lastly, none of these people expected to get into a shooting that day. That's an important reminder for us, too.

We already have literally thousands of gun laws on the books. Thousands! The solution to gun violence is not adding to this already incomprehensible pile. Yet, those who continue to push for new laws while ignoring what already exists, and without repealing the existing ones which are often contradictory, are insincere. To them, it is a political game. The uncomfortable truth ignored by the anti-gun crowd is that the cities and states with the most stringent gun control laws, also have the biggest problems with violent crime. And, those problems are growing because good people are unable to protect themselves.

Those who blame adjacent states with more liberal gun control laws for this growth in gun violence, don't have facts to support their claim. Like so many of their arguments, their position is based in an emotional response, not truth.

Contrast this to the States that have adopted concealed-carry of handgun laws. In these States, the occurances of violent crimes has decreased.

The results of the most exhaustive "criminals with guns" study ever undertaken was just released by the US Dept of Justice. One interesting finding is that only 1.3% of US prisoners obtained their guns from a retail source. So, background checks are fine, but new anti-gun laws will not reduce crime. This study is also a wake-up call that law-abiding citizens who are competent, should be armed. The problem of criminals with guns is not going away, and as the truism reminds us, "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away."
