It has been in vogue lately to claim that the forward assist on the AR platform is unnecessary, or even a design flaw. This has gone to the ridiculous level of, otherwise solid AR manufacturers (Yeah, I'm looking at you PWS) removing the forward assist form their guns.
This whole argument is ludacris! In what world is it a good idea to have no positive method to move the bolt of a rifle forward? YEs, I'm aware that some people claim that that is what the indention in the bolt carrier is for. It's not. That indention is for the dust cover to close into and it leaves a lot to be desired as a forward assist substitute.
I have known this since my days as a young Marine patrolling through the jungles of Panama. I specifically remember my rifle failing to fire due to it being slightly out of battery. It may have been due to the conditions, it may have been my charging hadle getting caught on my gear, I don't know. A tap on my forward assist and the rifle fired. Yes, tap and rack would likely have cleared the problem as well, but as the shooter I had the option of doing what I felt I needed to do to make the gun work.
Personally, I will never by an AR pattern rifle without a forward assist.
How the forward assist helped save Kyle Rittenhouse’s life

We talk about the downsides of purse and off body carry. The risks are real.

Relevant to current events? I would say it very much is.

Objectively, the facts of this case were more controversial than those of the Rittenhouse case. Where is this case in the national news? It certainly contradicts the idea that Ritttenhouse would have been convicted if he wasn't white!
Andrew Coffee IV found not guilty on all counts of murder, attempted first degree murder
The verdict was reached just after 2 p.m. Friday.

There are places you will only be able to carry in with an LTC.
Starting to see these signs pop up already. Even though you can legally carry in TX now without a permit, we at TxHGA still think there is value in having your permit. You can carry across state lines (most states) and carry in places like this one. Consider getting your permit, and please consider continuing to seek training.

Constitutional Carry is dead. The bill that passed is not Constitutional Carry. If you must trade your Fourth Amendment Rights to exercise your Second Amendment Rights, there is nothing Constitutional about it.
This is, in fact a step backwards with the current changes that allow for police stops with the mere presence of a firearm absent any reasonable suspicion whatsoever.
This is a result of the Police Unions and Associations [quietly] lobbying our elected officials all while asking [publicly] for our support against the defund and de-unionize the police movements at the ballot box.
As a friend of mine recently said, in reference to this Bill, “They p**s on us and tell us it’s raining.“
This bill should be sent back to the legislature until a good bill passes and our Law Enforcement "public servants" should not dictate policy to the public they serve.

What scares me about this is the number of people who have no idea when they can actually use force in the State of Texas combined with the number of people who absolutely lack any semblance of the requisite skill to discharge a firearm in a populated area and the utter lack of anything resembling safe handling habits.
Unfortunately, the idea of personal responsibility going hand-in-hand with personal rights is long since passé. The number of people who attend our classes and have no idea when they can and cannot shoot someone under the laws of our state is stunning. I would venture to say it includes almost everyone who is not in (or a veteran of) Law Enforcement or the Legal System. My concern is that most of these people will never bother to learn the rules governing use of force once the permit is no longer required.
The other issue is that the average skill level of the people who attend a LTC Class is dismally low. Many barely manage to pass. We do get good scores out of those who attend our basic handgun class, but I would venture to say that most of the people attending both classes do so because they know that they must pass the Shooting Portion of the LTC Class. Absent this, I do not think most of these people will seek the training they should have in order to responsibly own and carry their handguns.
All of that said, the idea that we should even remotely need to pass a law permitting what the Second Amendment clearly says is ludicrous -a big thank you to an intellectually dishonest and political-agenda driven court system. The Second Amendment clearly allows for carry and any law which affirms that is a good thing in the overall scheme of things.
Liberty > Safety
Bill allowing permitless carrying of handguns advances to Texas Senate floor, where its fate remains uncertain
The bill would nix the requirement for most Texas residents to obtain a license to carry handguns. Texans would also no longer be required to receive training before carrying a handgun in public.

Well said.
Seriously. Just get out and compete.
It is tons of fun, you'll meet great people, and you'll learn a lot.
