Wow!!! This park; Hendrick Arnold nature park is SOO new, it’s not even popping up on the map to check in. Sorry! I tried.
This is one of San Antonio’s new parks that opened up in October. Hendrick Arnold Nature Park contains 74 acres of riparian woodland that fronts on the Medina River. They have 3 small trails which are natural trails. It is completely quiet out here. So much so that cows 🐄 meandered through 🤪 You can find the park at 8950 Fitzhugh Rd San Antonio , TX 78252

A little over a half a mile from either the urban ecology center inside Hardberger park, or the Salado outdoor classroom also inside Hardberger but Blanco road entrance, you can make your way to the Land Bridge. There are signs directing you from both trailheads to the land bridge. If you take the water loop trail from the blanco entrance of the park you will get to walk the skywalk before crossing the land bridge. Entering from the Savannah loop trail on the NW military side cross over the land bridge and you’ll get to the skywalk. It’s amusing to walk and there are some bird blinds and partially shaded trails leading up to the bridge. A nice addition for the areas wildlife to cross Wurzbach parkway.

I love this park. There are two trails under 2 miles. Red oak trail loop is just over 1.3 miles and starts at the trailhead. It is the easier trail with majority being a natural terrain. You can decide to add Bear grass which has more climb to it. Nice hill views on both. This is the place for a quieter hike than it’s nearby neighbor park- Freidrick Wilderness.

A new state park and it’s close to San Antonio! Near the pipe creek area a natural area reserve over 3,000 acres is in the works to become a state park. No opening date has been set but on the TPWD site it is calling for volunteers to help survey the land and animals. I’m thinking to help?!
Albert & Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area — Texas Parks & Wildlife Department The Albert & Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area will protect a very special piece of the Hill Country. You’ll be able to see wildlife in natural settings, hear coyotes in the distance, view stars to the northwest, and go camping and hiking.

This is one of my favorite sections of the Leon creek greenway. It starts off behind the Rim shopping but soon reveals hilly views and open fields. There are some nice wildflowers. It is a pretty sunny walk, there’s a small section of shade. Moving towards Eisenhower park at the top of the paved incline there is seating facing the sunsets. As your walking you see remnants of a service road which for me beckons me to explore but with the foreboding signs “No trespassing “, I stick to the trail. If you take this trail to Eisenhower you emerge at the park and climb the hills there. Getting pumped for the hike tomorrow!

Yes there is kayaking at Woodlawn lake but only on Saturdays and Sunday. It's $15 a hour for a single kayak. I was super excited about the idea of walking a few laps along the lake and then taking to the kayak until....trash. When I asked the attendees at the expedition school which is where you rent from, if the lake was the only place to kayak since it's so small, they said that beyond it was a creek to go down. They described it as apocalyptic! Ok I'm intrigued. Well it only takes 10 minutes or less to kayak the perimeter so I headed to this area after and was shocked by the trash. I did enjoy kayaking alongside a swan but besides that rummaging through trash as I paddled was not my idea of fun. Sadly I don't think I will be doing this again.
