25 years ago this morning, 2,977 people went to work, boarded planes, and answered calls, and never came home.

We remember the passengers of Flight 93 who fought back. We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters and the police officers and EMTs who ran toward the danger when everyone else was running away.

And we remember the generation that raised their right hand in the days and years that followed. Many of them didn’t come home either.

“Never forget” isn’t a slogan. It’s a responsibility. Stay ready. Stay aware. And teach the next generation what happened that day and why it still matters.

DRYFIRE TUESDAY — WORKING THE LIGHT

You’ve done the draw, the reload, and movement this month. Last one: doing all of it in the dark.

THE DRILL — 10 minutes, lights off
No timer. This is a mechanics drill.

Using a handheld light in the support hand or a weapon mounted light:

Light on. Identify the target. Sight picture. Press. Light off. Move.

10 reps using your preferred technique — Harries, cheek/neck index, weapon mounted light.

10 reps searching a dark room and transitioning to the target when you find it.

10 reps performing a reload with the light in your hand and the room dark.

WHAT TO WATCH
- Are you lighting from the same spot twice?
- Did you try both ways? That’s the argument for the handheld, and it’s why we teach both.
- Can you reload with a light in your hand?

This is the drill people skip and it’s the one that matters at 2am.

You dry fired getting off the X on Monday. Now put rounds on it.

THE DRILL
Distance: 7 yards
Target: One IPSC target
Start: Concealed, hands at sides, squared to the target
Par: 2.5 seconds

On the beep: explosive lateral step off the line, draw during the movement, two rounds to the A zone on the move.

5 reps left. 5 reps right.

STANDARD
Under 2.5 with both hits.
If you’re clean and fast, add speed.

TRAINING TIP: YOU ARE GOING TO FIGHT IN THE DARK.

Over 70% of shootings happen at night. Almost nobody has ever fired a round in low light, and the ones who have mostly did it wrong.

Three things you can fix today, free, in your living room:

1. STOP LEAVING THE LIGHT ON.
A constant-on light is a target indicator with your name on it. Learn to work in flashes — light, look, move, light again. Never light from the same spot twice. If you can see them, they can see where the light is coming from, and the light is not where you want the rounds going.

2. LEARN ONE HANDHELD TECHNIQUE COLD.
Harries, cheek/neck index, whatever you prefer. Pick one. Run it until you can do it without thinking, in the dark, with cold hands. A weapon-mounted light is not a substitute — you should not be muzzling everything you want to identify. Searching with a WML means pointing a gun at your kid coming down the hall.

3. RUN YOUR GUN BLIND.
Tonight. Lights off, weapon confirmed unloaded, room clear of ammo. Reload it. Clear a malfunction. Find the safety. If you can’t do it without looking, you can’t do it at 2am with your heart rate at 170.

We spend real time on this at camp, on a live range, in actual darkness. There’s no substitute for it. But start tonight with the free version.
