This past weekend our SAFIRE athletes competed in the Regional Basketball Tournament, but it was extra special because it was Coach Darren’s final regional tournament as he retires after 20+ years of volunteering with Special Olympics. 🏀💙🏈

Coach Darren has been a huge part of our SAFIRE family, coaching basketball and flag football, always bringing the fun while keeping our athletes focused and ready to compete when it was game time. His energy, dedication, and belief in our athletes has made a lasting impact on so many lives.

We are incredibly grateful for the time, heart, and commitment he has given over the years.

Thank you for everything, Coach! Enjoy your well-deserved retirement! 👏

Special OlympicsTexas lost a great Coach, Mentor, Friend, Husband, and Dad yesterday. I am stricken with grief that we have to say goodbye to Paul Gustafson. He was a mentor to me throughout the 27 years I have known him. He lead by example, guided with wisdom, and was just a big teddy bear always there when you needed a hug. The loss of Coach Paul will effect a lot of y'all as athletes, coaches, and anyone that got the honor to meet him. We will all feel the loss, but knowing Coach Paul he would say he lived his best life and a lot of his happiest moments were coaching and watching his son Cody be a part of Special Olympics. Athletes that got to train under him take that knowledge and continue to strive for that Gold Medal of life. Find some part of you and use those lessons to continue to excel at what you are best at. Hold your heads up and be proud to be a Special Olympics athlete or Coach, I know that is what I will do. I will continue to step on that playing field and Win, but if I can not win, let me be BRAVE in the attempt. We all love you Coach Paul, I know you will continue to be the best coach and mentor in the next step. p.s. Save some tacos for me. ♥️

Special Olympics Regional Swim Meet TODAY 📣 GO SA FIRE SHARKS!!

What a fantastic day at the Area 20 Special Olympics Topgolf Competition! ⛳️ Our delegation showed up strong with multiple athletes and Unified Partners teaming up for an unforgettable event. 🎉 Every single participant brought home a medal 🥇🥈🥉—but more importantly, they brought their A-game and positive energy!
