Happy Friday everyone!
Check out these mold spores Hunter Joseph captured after some mold testing for a client up in Northern California! These samples might look cool, but they could actually be hazardous to you and your employees- especially those with pre-existing conditions like asthma or allergies.
Did you know Scott Environmental offers mold testing? This might be a good idea if you are re-modeling old areas or moving into a new building. Now that we have settled into winter with the significant amount of rain we had last month- people are spending a lot more time indoors. So let's check if your heating/cooling system is clean!
Feel free to call us with any questions or concerns.
Have a great weekend!

Scott Environmental's Southern California team wrapped up the last of our post-rain inspections today after a major atmospheric river impacted the region on Tuesday. NOAA's Los Angeles office confirmed that seven county monitoring locations shattered their previous precipitation record for the date, and their San Diego office confirmed several records in Orange County as well. The highest jobsite total that we came across was 3.3" in Pasadena, but it was impressive to see all of our sites receive well over 1" in a 12-18 hour period!
We will appreciate this brief pause in the rain while it lasts because we're already tracking the return of another wet weather pattern around the middle of next week 🌧

Southern California's National Interagency Fire Center just released their winter seasonal weather outlook and there's a few points worth noting as it relates to rain potential over the next several months. They noted that local sea surface temperatures are expected to cool significantly, which may open the door for more rain events to dip into the region. They also expect the number of blocking Santa Ana wind events to decrease. Time will tell, but these are encouraging signs for drought conditions in Southern California!

Yesterday NOAA released their November La Niña advisory. To summarize, La Niña conditions strengthened slightly over the last month and forecasters are now expecting it to persist longer, with a 50% chance of it lasting into Spring 2022.
While October brought some surprising and much needed wet weather to the Golden State, November has felt much more like a classic La Nina with dry, windy conditions and no rain in sight. However it's still very early in the rainy season, so let's hope that the North Pacific storm track wakes up and defies this La Niña trend as we move toward the holidays!

Our company would like to share an appreciation post for one of our site's most recent efforts to prepare for the first storm of the winter. The team over at Hensel Phelps were proactive at identifying any weak points the site may have had and doubled up on protection. They spent a few days hydro-seeding their hillslopes, installing aggregate at the top of the hill to create a channel, implementing visqueen, check-dams and more! We love to see this kind of effort from our clients.
This team was more than ready for the rain that hit southern California a few weeks ago. I don't know about you, but photos like these get us excited! Good job HP!

Our team of QSP's spent the last two days wrapping up post-inspections in Southern California after Monday's intense storm. It looks like the low-pressure system hit most of LA county bringing in an inch of rain in areas like North Hollywood and Duarte and 1.4 inches in Pasadena! Areas near downtown LA along with parts of Inland Empire got about half an inch. An impressive start to this year's rainy season!
Let's hope California continues to see more of this much needed rain this winter.

We're ready! Are you?
Here is the projected rainfall for Thursday night and Friday. Most amounts will be 1/4" to 1/2" with local amounts over 1" possible in the mountains.

Happy Friday Folks!
Here is a little weather update for this coming winter: According to NOAA there is about a 70% chance of La Niña returning this season. If you need a little refresher- La Niña is a natural ocean-atmospheric phenomenon marked by cooler-than-average sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern Pacific Ocean near the equator.
La Niña typically brings wetter and colder weather in the northern regions of the United States like the Pacific Northwest VS the warmer and drier conditions in the southern areas.
What does this mean for Southern California? This could potentially increase the duration of the current extreme drought conditions and impact future fires.
With that being said, each La Niña is different and can produce different conditions depending on weather patterns. So let's hope California beats the odds this winter!
