A couple years ago, in honor of the Silver Surfer award she received at the California Surf Museum in 2024, we remade Mary Lou Drummy’s old Weber Team board from the 60s!
Mary Lou has been a positive force in surfing for decades and we’re honored to help shine a light on her legacy and many contributions to our surfing community.

Classic footage of Dewey getting smoked (and nearly beheaded) at Pūpūkea in 1957 followed by some “creative” board repair moments.
Footage is from Bruce Brown’s timeless film, Slippery When Wet which was released in ‘58.
When Dewey and his design team started making the transition to shorter boards, they came up with a slew of new and progressive shapes including this one, which they named the Performer Squareback. We still make these today and, like its muscle car name suggests, this shape is fast and fun to drive!

Ok, y’all asked for more so here is “part two” of the surf trip footage we shared a couple days ago.
This footage is from one of Greg Noll’s surf movies. He made several and they were all called Search For Surf. In the 90s, Bruce Brown and Greg went through all the footage, made a master cut of their favorite bits and recorded an amazing and often hilarious voiceover. They released physical copies of the updated version, still called it Search For Surf, and the film eventually made its way to digital and is available to stream online. We still have our VHS copy and cherish these crystallized moments.
Dewey cruising in Kaua’i. These are classic surf trip moments; looking for waves, killing a little time and waiting for the weather to come around.

One of the progressive shapes Dewey and his dialed-in design team dreamed up at the end of the sixties, just before everything started going shorter.

We love the mellow, Amber Brown tint on this 9’8” Weber Stylist. The perfect wave vehicle for some classy and classic gray day cruising.

Here’s Nat Young driving hard on an experimental, Transition Era Performer while sharing some beautiful waves (and re-defining surfing) with a teenaged Wayne Lynch during a sequence from the legendary 1969 surf film, Evolution, by Paul Witzig.
This board was custom built for Nat but that Performer nose is unmistakeable!
Dewey and his team of brilliant shapers/surfers/design consultants like Harold “Iggy” Ige, Donald Takayama, Nat and Mike Tabeling didn’t abandon the Performer shape during the Transition Era. They kept on refining it and experimenting with shorter versions like this one.
