BREAKING: The Padres are signing both Nick Castellanos and Griffin Canning to round out their 2025-2026 offseason!!

Castellanos will sign on a 1-year deal for league minimum, with the remaining 19 million on his contract with the Phillies will be paid by them. The specifics on the Canning deal has not been made available yet, but I doubt it will be anything outrageously expensive. When the numbers are made public, I’ll be sure to give an update.

My thoughts on this: Honestly, I really like it. I absolutely love both of these moves by Preller and they address our two biggest remaining needs before the season begins.

Canning is a pitcher with a lot of upside and shores up the rotation. He had some solid performances last season and ended the year with a sub 4 ERA. Canning seems like a Pivetta type signing where we can see him take a big step forward after Niebla and the pitching lab work with him.

Castellanos did not have a great season last year by any metric but we know he’s been capable of putting up elite offensive numbers across multiple seasons in the past, so he’s a solid “change of scenery” pickup. He is able to play first base, DH, and outfield, if we really need him to, although he is notoriously bad in the field. This addresses our final major need on the position player side and, although it’s by no means a guarantee he will be successful, the fact he’s on a league minimum deal makes this risk completely worth it. The Philly org has been very publicly criticizing and trying to get rid of Castellanos for a while, which to some extent, probably affected his success on the field. Hopefully with a fresh start, he can start to look like the Castellanos of old.

What do you guys think of these signings by Preller?

Breaking News: Yu Darvish is planning to retire before next season, effectively forfeiting the remaining $43mm dollars over the next 3 years. Apparently, a final decision has not been made yet, but Yu has stated his desire to do so, which means it will very likely happen.

I just want to take a moment to thank Yu Darvish for being an amazing Padre and an amazing person throughout his time here. He is truly a class act and has been one of my favorite players ever since he came here. I will never forget the performance he gave us in game 5 of the 2024 NLDS. He pitched the game of his life after touching the Peter Seidler patch on his heart, and gave us as good of a chance to win as we could have hoped for, despite the team coming up short.

Him retiring like this and forfeiting the remaining contract further proves to me that Yu is a man of honor and integrity. This act of selflessness puts him at Padres legend status for me, and I hope he stays within the organization in some capacity. I want everyone to take a moment and realize how privileged we were to be able to watch and root for one of the greatest international icons of the game. Yu Darvish is a special person and was a special player, that we shouldn’t take for granted.

Thank you for everything you have a fan in me forever 🫡

Breaking news coming out this morning from John Seidler and the Seidler family: They are going to begin exploring a potential sale of the San Diego Padres franchise. This is certainly surprising but not shocking, knowing that John was not an enthusiastic owner and was placed in his role after an ugly lawsuit. Honestly, this leaves a bad taste in my mouth considering they ripped the franchise away from Sheel Seidler, Peter’s widow, promising to uphold Peter’s vision after his passing. However, John promises in his letter to find a new owner that will share Peter’s vision in fielding consistent competitive teams with the ultimate goal of winning the franchise’s first World Series championship. If he stays true to his word during the selling process of finding an owner who wants to win at all costs just like Peter, then this could be a great thing for the city of San Diego. We knew John wasn’t gonna open his pockets for this team but maybe a new owner will. (Saudi prince if you can hear me 😭)

What are your guys thoughts on this wild news?

BREAKING: THE PADRES ARE HIRING CRAIG STAMMEN TO BE THE NEXT MANAGER OF THE SAN DIEGO PADRES

I don’t know what to think of this move right now and will need time to contemplate and gather my thoughts on this decision. Initial reaction is a bit underwhelming considering names like Pujols were rumored. However, Stammen was considered to be a team leader during his playing career in San Diego so he should command respect from the clubhouse as some core players from that time are still here. I feel as if a strong initial negative reaction will be seen amongst the fanbase but it’s only fair we give him a shot. It’s not like some random guy we pulled off the street like Jayce Tingler was hired. Stammen is a highly respected former player who helped the San Diego Padres win their first playoff series in many years back in 2020 (that fake season).

What do you guys think about the decision? Is AJ cookin or are we cooked?

In a shocking turn of events, Mike Shildt has announced his retirement from managing the San Diego Padres. This comes as a surprise to many, including myself, as this was only his second year with the club and he was the most successful manager the team had ever had in the regular season within a 2-year span, having achieved back to back 90-win seasons for the first time in team history.

Although Mike had his faults as a manager, like his stubbornness to adjust, playing favorites, and suboptimal lineup construction, the culture he brought to the team and his ability to lead with the right mentality elevated the team to a higher standard. Personally, I was hoping for Shildt to stay as manager in SD for a long time, to provide a bit of stability at the manager position that we have lacked for many years. I believed his flaws were fixable and he could grow as a manager over time. I am honestly sick of constantly switching managers every couple of years and thought Shildt would be the guy to stick, but to my shock, he is retiring on his own volition.

So, where do the Padres go from here? To be honest, I’m not really sure what great managers are available. There is always the idea of bringing Bruce Bochy back to try and win a ring with his original team. However, I’m not sure how realistic that is and I don’t know if his personality will mesh well with Preller’s. All I know is that from the current staff, the Padres must retain Ruben Niebla and the pitching lab, clean house in the hitting department or have a serious mindset change, and the rest is whatever, honestly.

I wish nothing but the best in retirement to Mike Shildt and am thankful for what he provided us the past two seasons. 2024 was the best regular season I ever got to witness as a long time fan of this team, having not been old enough to have experienced 1998. For that reason, and for giving us some consistent winning for once, I will be forever grateful for Mike’s time here and will look back on his tenure fondly. Where do you guys think the team should go next?

Thank you for everything, Shildty!

The San Diego curse lives on.

Season is on the line. No one thinks that you can do it. How will you respond, 84?

The 2025 regular season has come to a close for the San Diego Padres, finishing a respectable 90-72, good enough for the 5th seed in the National League. It is the first time in franchise history that the Padres have had back to back 90-win seasons. A great accomplishment that highlights our team’s brutal history, but simultaneously proves we are in a golden era of Padres baseball. We are set to face the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley field tomorrow in the Wild Card round (at 12pm PT). A tough matchup in a hostile environment.

How would I review the Padres season? Well, with the expectations coming into the season, I was just hoping the team could fight and claw for 85+ wins and squeak their way into the 6 seed (kind of like the Reds). We had Yuli Gurriel, Jason Heyward, and Martin Maldonado as regular starters with seemingly no money to work with to add salary. Jackson Merrill, Michael King, and Xander Bogaerts all missed significant time due to injuries. Tatis somehow went on an unprecedented 2 and a half month slump where he lost his swing. However, despite all of that, this team managed to win a very respectable 90 games this year, coming only a handful of games short of the division and/or top wildcard. So, taking into account my preseason expectations, I have to give the 2025 San Diego Padres an A- grade on the year. They far surpassed anything I expected them to do, and I have to give them a lot of credit for that.

AJ Preller should receive a lot of the praise for getting this team to the 90-win milestone. Basically all of his deadline moves have worked out in the present, as he addressed every hole on the roster. He built a 9-man deep lineup and a super bullpen that is constructed specifically for playoff success.

The Pads will be going into the postseason hot, finishing 8-1 with multiple offensive outbursts, Tatis looking like himself, and the starting pitching getting back to some normalcy. Now all that’s left is to see if this great team on paper can be great when it matters most: on the baseball diamond, with that cold October chill in the air.

If they can make it out of Wrigley, my confidence will be sky high and I’ll like our odds to go all the way

Hey everyone. Just wanted to make a post explaining where I have been as many of you have probably noticed my absence over the past week or so. Without going into too much detail, I have been dealing with a multitude of personal issues regarding my family which is what prompted me to take a break from posting. Not everything has been resolved yet, but I can at least say that things are starting to look better which is why I’m taking the time to make this post.

Unfortunately, it seems that during my time away from the account and only viewing the Padres from a distance, the team has been collapsing. They haven’t provided me with the best form of escape through these difficult times lol. Maybe my lack of posts has cursed them or something so hopefully this post can break that curse and they can get back to winning ways tonight. Even while I’m going through it, I’m still rooting for the Pads.

I’m not sure how much longer I will need before things can go back to normal and you guys can start seeing the rants on my story again lol. However, just know that I’m not leaving and I WILL be back before too long.

Hold your loved ones dearly, and never take what you have for granted. You never know what people could be going through, so always show humanity and kindness whenever you can. Thank you all for continuing to be the best followers I could ask for. See ya soon 🤎💛
