We worked on the standing version of kata guruma for the nage no kata, but I can count the number of times (on no hands) that I’ve hit the standing version in a live randori session. Here is a version of drop kata guruma that I used to like to use a lot when I was doing more wrestling and no gi. The leg grab is illegal under modern judo competition rule sets, but there are easy modifications to accommodate the technique without grabbing the uke’s leg.

Great class tonight! Covered some details on hadaka jime (naked strangle) - specifically the difference in applying a windpipe choke vs a blood choke - both of which are possible, but with subtle differences in application.

Brought back the gold! We had the deepest division in terms of number of competitors. Good times in SF.
