Magic Carpet Sailing Adventures

"Magic Carpet" A 60' Dutch Built Ketch is taking me and others on a slow. meandering. adventurous sa

Operating as usual

Magic Carpet and I are leaving Barra de Navidad to Zihautanejo this Friday, the 18th. Lots of great adventures ahead. Crew spots are available for those singles and couples who want to have a true liveaboard cruising experience. I can make stops along the way to pick crew up as we meander down the coast to Costa Rica and Panama during April, May, and June. PM me for details.

Happy New Year everyone from Magic Carpet anchored tonight after a stormy day in La Paz. See you in 2022 for more adventure.

I am in San Diego but my 60' ketch is in Ensenada. Sometime near the end of November I will be heading down the Baja for a three month cruise of the Sea of Cortez. I am searching for a lady crew/mate that would like to join me. Also I have two extra double cabins for individuals or couples that would like to join in on the fun and adventure for part or all of the cruise time. The boat has a large dinghy, water maker, air conditioning when needed, washer, dive compressor and equipment and much more for comfort and safety. I anticipate a relaxed cruise visiting all the best coves and villages along the way. See Magic Carpet and more at Magic Carpet Sailing Adventures on FB. Contribution for expenses. Please send a PM if you like to join me or the cruise or for more details. Captain Jack.

Sailing Trip San Diego to Puerto Vallarta 2020

Thank you Leonardo Ciriminna for this photo experience of our trip through parts of Mexico. Beings back good memories of the activity we all had before the virus shut us all down to sitting in the Bay.

A few pictures on the way to Cabo San lucas. Crew caught 17 fish so far and we ate two of them. Wait let's back up a couple of weeks. After delay upon delay we finally departed with fresh crew members Brandon Bolic and Leonardo Ciriminna from San Diego. I thank everyone who supported this crazy dream and helped in many ways to bring this to a reality. I have to admit as I was leaving the harbor and passing the jetty as I have done 1000s of times before that this was the last time for a long time, and I was also thinking " What have I done" Sold two awesome businesses and cut ties with most all other responsibilities and securities of Home to gamble it all on a new adventurous life traveling on my floating exploration sailing machine. I have made may changes in my life, all taken with absolute enthusiasm and confidence. Some turned out well and some crashed. How will this mega change work out? Only time will tell.

Shake down trip to Cabo went well. Discovered a few issues along the way and learned more about the sailing habits of this remarkable ship. So many systems to learn and maintain, but a nice learning curve and fun to have new things to think about and solve. Bring resourceful and overcoming problems with what you have on board is one of the unique pleasures of long distance sailing.

So for now as we run with wind on the beam and full sail, I sit in the helm chair with Marina the cat sleeping on my lap and whales breaching near the boat as they escort us on our first few hours back at sea on the way to mainland Mexico across the mouth of the Sea of Cortez, I again pass on to each of you a spacial Thank You and invitation to follow along this page and our adventures and make a plan to join as crew somewhere out there at your favorite port or islands.

Ahoy there! Looks like we have a last minute opening for one crew or couple to join us for a daybreak Sunday departure from San Diego to Puerto Vallarta stopping for a day to check into Ensenada. Magic Carpet is a 60 ft heavy cruiser. Very comfortable and safe. PM me or call 858-245-9216 to stake your claim to this spot. Get to the boat anytime Saturday. Yes that's this Saturday.
Captain Jack

Looks like I have an open spot for one crew to go from San Diego to Puerto Vallarta via Cabo San Lucas. Join me and two others for all or part or this trip. Figure one to two weeks. Departure on Friday or Saturday. Check out Magic Carpet Sailing Adventures. PM me.

Straining at the dock lines. Three days to lift off.

After 20 years of the San Diego good life and since letting go of Ensign Yacht brokerage and Romancing the Wind charters, I have been very absorbed with fixing up and preparing my new cruising sailboat "Magic Carpet" I am just about done and ready to shove off south to Panama and then to the South Pacific. If you have the opportunity to visit me before I go, Magic Carpet and I will be at the visitor's dock at the Southwesten Yacht Club this Sunday Feb 9th from 11 to 6. Come over and take a look at this amazing boat and say goodbye. Perhaps you will consider joining up with me in the future at your favorite exotic island for some relaxation and scuba diving. I do hope you will stop by and allow me to thank you for your association and friendship. Jack Buckley
