“And we’re off!” To Antarctica we go!!!! Two months of testing gear, diving every day I can, endless prep tasks. It almost doesn’t feel real. But as I write this from my aisle seat on the first of many flights to Ushuaia I feel nothing but gratitude. To the people and companies who have made this possible for me THANK YOU!!!! Antarctica has always been one of my biggest bucket list goals and to be going as a funded artist? My God what a dream come true.

Bye bye beautiful Monterey diving and hello to ice!

Special thanks to for granting me the scholarship that made this possible. To for assisting me with gear. And to my entire scuba family for buddying with me, offering me places to stay, lending me gear, offering help, the Monterey dive community is like no other! And to my donors a huge huge thank you!

And to my lovely partner .kardash (who has been helping out so much while I run around endlessly prepping for this trip. Thank you for taking care of me and making sure I take care of myself in the busiest of times.

Antarctica: Returning home 🏠 ✈️🇦🇶

I was away from home for just over two weeks. It was about 3.5 days of travel to reach the peninsula from Seattle- 1.5 days by air, two by boat- then a similar journey back home. I spent nearly the same amount of time traveling to get to and from the continent as I spent seeing the continent. While I missed home, I didn’t like that ratio: I wanted more time.

There was an immense feeling of pressure to do and see as much as physical possible. A generous donor provided funds for me to be here and a selection committee somehow found me worthy enough of that funding. Not only did I want to make the most of the trip for myself, knowing how rare it was to visit Antarctica at all, I didn’t want to waste the support that was given to me. At times I felt guilty for wanting to sleep rather than stay up late in the lounge with other passengers. Was I wasting a precious networking opportunity? I felt guilty for laying down in my cabin, staving off sea sickness on the Drake Passage, knowing talks and presentations were being given two decks above me. Should I have picked up my camera more? Did I record enough? Should I have set it down more? Did I live in the moment enough? Did I cut my dives too short when my fingers were biting cold? Should I have pushed myself harder get to more out of this?

On the journey home, when I had many many hours of down time to reflect, I tried to push these doubts out of my mind and focus on everything that came out of this experience. I made an incredible bond with my cabin mate and dive buddy Bella and we were joined by the ever sweet and bubbly snorkler Ally. The three of us nearly always together- so much so the crew took notice. I dived safely and comfortably, if not too cold, in some of the harshest and most remote areas of the world. I visited places and saw things most people dream of. I’ll have these memories for the rest of my life and will happily share these stories with anyone who will listen. I’m eternally grateful and I’ll work hard to be an ambassador for the polar region- the fastest changing environments on Earth.
