🥋 YOU’RE INVITED: HÉLIO GRACIE DAY

113 minutes of training. A lifetime of inspiration.

Join your Gracie Jiu-Jitsu La Jolla family on Thursday, October 1, 7pm-9pm as we honor the life and legacy of Grandmaster Hélio Gracie with a special 113-minute roll—one minute for every year since his birth.

More than an endurance challenge, this is an opportunity to celebrate the art we practice, the lessons we carry beyond the mats, and the training partners who help us grow.
Let’s honor his legacy the way we know best: training together with purpose, respect, and gratitude.

The Kimura (or Kimura armlock/lock) is a figure-four shoulder lock used in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), judo, mixed martial arts (MMA), catch wrestling, and other grappling arts. It primarily attacks the shoulder joint through internal rotation (with secondary pressure on the elbow), forcing the opponent to submit or risk injury to the shoulder ligaments, labrum, or rotator cuff (and potentially the elbow or humerus if not released).
