National Federation of the Blind of California San Diego Chapter

National Federation of the Blind of California San Diego Chapter We are an organization for and of the blind. We are dedicated to advancing the lives of blind individuals.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back. Here in the San Diego Chapter we hold these tennants and ideas of our national and state affiliate to be true. All that it takes to improve your quality of life and reach your goals is proper attitude, education, opportunity, and a few adaptive methods. We hope to help you realize your potential and continue to pursue your dreams. While at the same time continuously working on informing, educating and correcting societies views on blindness. We hope to see you soon at one of our chapter meetings or recreation events!

There are moments in a conversation you don’t realize you’re missing until you have access to them again.

For Julia, one of those moments was knowing when her mom smiled.

After more than a decade of severe vision loss, Julia experienced ALEYE during beta testing and was able to reconnect with nonverbal cues that had largely disappeared from her everyday interactions.

That is exactly why we’re building ALEYE: to make more of the information within our everyday connections accessible through touch.

It’s National Guide Dog Month, but apparently this adorable giraffe wanted in on the celebration, too. 💚

Meet Jenine Stanley and her guide dog, Curtis! We love this glimpse of their adventures together—with a very tall guest making an appearance.

We’re sharing more guide dog teams from our HapWare community throughout the month, and we’d love to include yours! Send a photo and a little about you and your guide dog to [email protected].
