This young high-flying group of Hawks returned to Arizona earlier this month to compete in the USSSA 10U Open Division. The team got to play games at the "Yankee Stadium" field on the Cactus Yards complex in Gilbert.
"A true field of dreams experience that the boys will always remember," said head coach Greg Gerken.
Out of the 20+ teams, these Hawks went 2-1 in pool play and earned a spot in the Gold Bracket! A dominant pitching performance in bracket play by Zane Korzen and closer Nolan Weber springboarded the team into the Gold Bracket semifinal where they eventually lost to the Open Division Champs the Placentia Punishers.
Aside from playing ball, the team attended two Padres Spring Training games together in Peoria and Mesa. βΎβοΈ

[Question] Whatβs your favorite memory playing for the Hawks?
[Dhillon] "My favorite memory playing for the Hawks was winning our first tournament, all the way back with my first Hawks team in 7U."
[Q] βWhat Hawks coach has left the biggest impact on you?
[Dhillon] "Coach Drew Bieri, he was my first coach and coached me for six years. He helped make me into the player I am today, and I owe much of my success to his coaching and mentorship."
From 14U Prime Coach Eric Kahnert: "Max is a pleasure to coach, always working hard, always putting in the extra work. A real team chemistry guy. Always shows up, and has a smile on his face. He is a team leader. He puts in the work at home. And gets good grades!
Batting leadoff for the squad, Dhillon has posted a .471 batting AVG this season. Leading the team in this category along with hits (66), singles (47), and doubles (19). A true table setter for one of San Diego's top teams!!

A core group that came over from a Poway National All-Star team, this group of boys wanted to stay together and joined the Hawks Family. Some of these players and coaches have been together since T-Ball, which says a lot about how close this young team already is. They will be one of the teams representing the Hawks in Cooperstown in 2027!
Head Coach Peter Ward on the group: "Even after only being part of the Hawks for about three months, this team is already showing a lot of promise. In the tournaments played so far, we have played really well and continue to make a strong transition from rec ball to travel ball. It's been pretty amazing to watch how much progress this team has made in such a short time. There's a lot to be excited about, and expectations are definitely high for the months ahead.

This group of 11U Hawks have put together an awesome season on the diamond! The team shows great energy, competes every inning, and plays the game the right way - all at a consistent level. They support each other, hustle on every play, and never back down.
Even better than the play on the field is the way this group of Hawks has carried themselves as teammates. The growth this group continues to show each week is something to be proud of.
Huge shoutout to the players for their effort and to the families who bring the energy every game!

[Question] Whatβs your favorite memory playing for the Hawks?
[Tran] "Some of my favorite memories that I cherish when playing for the Hawks come from
the moments on and off the field on our trip to Cooperstown, New York, for a tournament. This
included watching late-night baseball shows with my teammates in our bunks, to the goosebumps
of the clutch homeruns my teammates and I hit, and countless other memories from that experience."
[Q] βWhat Hawks coach has left the biggest impact on you?
[Tran] Coach John San Jule has greatly impacted me as a baseball player. As I continue to
work towards high school baseball, he has been there for me and has been a consistent presence during the practices and games, helping me further grow my baseball skills. I step off the field every practice and game with the benefit of learning something new from him every time. He has been paramount in helping me progress as I continue to move closer to high school and hopefully college ball. Hearing his experiences playing at a high-level has been greatly beneficial, and he is a big reason I am the ballplayer I am today."
