St Augustine Rugby Football Club

The Saints took on Torrey Pines over the weekend. The Saints were ranked #7 in the nation by Rugby Riot and TP was ranked #3. The Saints made a number of mistakes early and TP jumped out to a 12-0 lead. The boys got things turned around and responded by adding two tries before the break and converting the kicks to take a 14-12 lead at half. The team came out in the second half and scored a long try off a set piece move. The Saints had a 21-12 lead half way through the second half, but were unable to hold on to the lead. The full time result was Saints 21 - 31 TP. Despite the loss, the Saints will look to rebound for the final fixture of the season versus La Costa Canyon. EARN IT!

Your Saints Rugby program capped off the 2024-2025 season with a DOUBLE win at Mira Costa 😈🙌🏽🎉

The Saints developmental squad started the day with a physical win, beating MC’s JV team 40-10.

The Varsity headliner concluded with a 47-14 win for the Saintsmen. With a tight scoreline of 21-14 at the half, your Saints made necessary adjustments to run away with a 26-0 second half. After the game, multiple coaches from the opponent’s staff commended our players for their dynamic style of rugby, with onne even stating “That was the the best half of high school rugby I have every seen”.

Man of the Match honors go to the Senior Alex Kemp. The staff has said time and again, as our playmakers go, so goes the team. Good thing for the Saintsmen, Alex was on a roll over the weekend, playing well on both sides of the ball. The agile loose forward created and exploited space all over the field, and his decision making and ex*****on off of penalties kept the pressure on the opposing team. Forward of the Match goes to Senior Geno McKenna. The hard-running prop has been a force in the scrum all year, and his ability to create overloads facilitated many successful plays on the weekend. His go forward really showed in Mira Costa’s red zone, as the big front rower dominated at the breakdown. Back of the Match is awarded to Senior inside centre Caelyb Aguirre. The pivot man on attack really opened up the Saints’ offense coming out of the half time break. After spreading the Mustang defense, Caelyb did well to cut through lanes up the middle.

The Saints staff would like to thank all the Saints Rugby families and fans for their overwhelming love and support this season! The program is blessed and thankful to have such a wonderful tribe around the boys.

The Saints JV squad has one more week of training before a JV Championship against Cathedral this Friday night.

Your Saints Rugby Team travels up to tomorrow to cap off their 2024-2025 season.

The Saintsmen are looking to finish their campaign with a big win over a skillful Costa side in Manhattan Beach. The Mustangs were victorious over your Saintsmen last year, and boys in purple are looking for a very different result to send off the seniors in proper fashion.

JV begins the day at 11:30AM, with the main Varsity fixture to take place at 1:00PM.
