Los Discos - Saturday Morning Ultimate Frisbee - Balboa Park, San Diego, Ca

For those looking for a game today. There is a 12pm game up at highland ranch park. Game is early so those with kids can play and not get in trouble by coming home too late for trick or treating with the kids.

Dear Los Discos Community,

In honor of the 20th Anniversary of our Saturday morning Balboa frisbee game, a word from the founder, Brandon "Godfather" Cohen:

Twenty years ago, a handful of San Diego natives grabbed a disc and walked up the hill to play an informal game of ultimate at 6th and Grape. As sporty friends heard of this good time, within a month our numbers grew enough that we moved to the larger field up the street to 6th and Laurel. It was here in the summer of 1999 that Los Discos were born.

Armed with state of the art technology, the yahoogroups list serve kept us organized and informed.

Over the past 20 years, friends and stellar players have come and gone, “tree-fence” has saved (or ruined) the day, and “the hump” has tripped up the best of us, but the spirit of Los Discos lives on.

Of all the things I’ve accomplished in my life, nothing fills me with more pride than starting a self-sustaining pick up game that is twenty years running. No need to mention that to my wife and kids.

So to mark this momentous occasion, a party!

Join us for an afternoon / evening of friends, food, and beverages sharing stories. You can wear a white or dark shirt--or even an ambiguous grey shirt for the party...but still no cleats.

So here's the plan:
A potluck at Jake's house. Brats and burgers provided. Potluck for everything else. Please use the google sheet to rsvp/sign up for shared item for planning purposes. Not required but very helpful. Families / significant others welcome.

This post is a bit late but I couldn't go until next week without telling this story. This past Saturday we were joined by a woman by the name of Syd. She is from Kansas City traveling for a year. Syd jumped right in and obviously had some skills. About midway through the 2nd game she jumped for a pass and came down really hard. We all stopped but she jumped right up, said she was ok, so we played on. It wasn't until after the 4th game when we all were packing up that she began speaking about her history with Ultimate and mentioned she was 72 years old! When I tell you this woman did not look, or move, like she was 72 years old thats a complete understatement. Dave asked her what her secret was in staying so fit, and she said simply, "I never stop moving." Days like this are why I appreciate this game so much.
