Empowering women to regain their confidence and sense of self through getting strong.

What a gift to be a part of such an incredible event. To be surrounded by amazing women all rallying around a cause to cure breast cancer and to support those who are affected by it. I learned so much. I cried so much. I walked so so so so much. I didn’t know what to expect out of these 3 days. I didn’t know how hard it would be to walk 20 miles a day 3 days in a row (should have been obvious). I didn’t know how many stories I would hear of those lost, of those fighting, of those who know they are on borrowed time. I didn’t know how much joy and hope people could bring when things feel so hopeless and lost (not just from cancer. yes, I am still mourning the election and I will be for the next 4 years). I am grateful to my friends who invited me to join them. And to all the women and men who volunteered, cheered, walked, bandaged blistered feet (mine included), and donated (thank you thank you!). If you ever have the opportunity to be a part of this walk in any way, I absolutely think you should.

Just some interesting charts regarding the economy under different presidencies. It’s almost like we ALL do better with a democratic president.

Summer is here! Which means many of us are getting out of town for a much needed vaca. Worried about your workouts? Don’t be! Just follow these tips below 👇

1. Just don’t. Many trainers will show you how to get a workout in before going to breakfast, squeezing a quick bodyweight session in between sight seeing. If that’s what gives you the energy to get up and go, awesome! But it’s also ok to skip a few workouts. I don’t know how many times I’ve packed workout gear just to have it stay in my suitcase untouched. Vacation is time for relaxation. Most people are walking more, adventuring, playing, swimming, being generally more active than while at home sitting at a desk working. Let that play be enough. That being said, if you want to let off a little steam or get some alone time and working out is your way to relax and ground yourself, get after it!

2. Keep it simple. If you’re in a hotel there are often gyms, but they have limited equipment. Usually you’ll see 4 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, a bike or two, one rack of dumbbells, and one bench. Create a circuit with the dumbbells, including a squat, row, DB deadlifts, then on the floor for glute bridges, chest press, dead bugs. If you’re somewhere without a gym like your mom’s house, do a bodyweight workout with squats or squat jumps, pushups, triceps presses off the floor, glute bridges. . . . there are plenty of bodyweight exercises that will humble you into sweatydom.

3. Plan a walk or play date with your kids or nieces and nephews or pups. A walk around the block is more than nothing, and more than nothing is something.

4. See #1. It really is ok to take a break from your workouts and enjoy the time away from reality. Don’t feel guilty about it. Don’t think you’ll lose your gains or habits. Those weights will be at home weighting for you.

Embarking on a strength training program often sparks a desire for immediate, visible results. However, authentic transformation takes patience. While visible changes may take time to manifest, it’s so important to acknowledge the myriad of other benefits that accompany exercise. From increased energy levels to enhanced mental clarity and better sleep, these non-visible transformations are just as significant, if not more so, than the changes we can see in the mirror. By recognizing them, you’re giving yourself credit for your hard work, even if it’s not showing right away. Without recognizing these non-visible benefits, the temptation to abandon exercise due to a perceived lack of progress may arise, ultimately hindering your journey towards optimal health and wellness. So, let’s celebrate our bodies for all they can do and find joy in the process, no matter where we are on our fitness journey.
