I haven’t been active on IG for a while as I’ve been restructuring many things on my side. I am genuinely curious what changed on your side.
🙋♀️What are your yoga and wellness goals now? What do you want?
🙋♀️What keeps you from achieving these goals?

Desikachar about his father, Krishnamacharya:
“When I first began studying with him (with Krishnamacharya) he sometimes said: “What you are teaching at the moment is wrong”. He said this in front of the students, but I did not feel any shame. On the contrary, I was happy that mistakes would thus be avoided. My students were not the least put off by this practice. It was rather seen as a good fortune to be given advice by the teacher. The wellbeing of students was always central to our teachings”.
So much to think about … :)

As many people, I wish I had more time. I wish I would not postpone things as much and go to Mysore more often. Nevertheless, I am really grateful for my last trip and for an opportunity to experience the intense energy of the main shala under the guidance of Sharathji.
During one of the last conferences that I attended, Sharathji said not to confuse the content with the form. He asked to remember that irrespectively of different ways of worshiping all roads lead to the divine. Just like all rivers eventually find their ways into the sea. I will remember that.
RIP Sharathji.
Though I still can not believe this new reality.

“There is only one way in yoga - softening and releasing”, Peter Sanson.
This approach is very different from the one I was used to - “yoga body is a firm/engaged body”. I feel like both approaches have their reasons to exist and have different benefits for different people at different stages of life. Ashtanga yoga simply offers us a framework for endless self-exploration and experiments if we allow ourselves to do so.
Right now, at this stage of my life and practice, it was so wonderful to surrender to softness. Entering Kapotasana felt like a free fall into the sea of warm butter (excuse my clumsy metaphor)… no resistance whatsoever. I was taught to be on a lookout, to engage this and that for protection, to align everything. And it is ok to do that. And it is ok to let go and not do any of that. In yoga, feeling has so much more value than overthinking.

Solitude is so healing for the soul. This is almost impossible wish for a new parent. But if it somehow becomes possible, it is such a treat and the best gift to yourself.

It is hard to find balance between “Tapas” (the fire of the practice, discipline, commitment) and “Vairagya” (detachment). Ancient yogic teachings say we should do the work but not get attached to the fruits of our labor. And yet, when we fall in love with Ashtanga yoga, it is not uncommon to develop more and more attachment. Everything revolves around this practice, we are getting fixated on the stop asana, measure internal depth of the practice by external progression in the sequence. When you think about it, it actually takes us away from the whole point of yoga.
Over the course of past few years, I’ve been drifting more and more towards Vairagya. Until one day I realized it was hard to connect to my Tapas. So this trip to Mysore was about reminding myself what it is that I love about this practice, what maintains my own fire. At the same, I didn’t want to be caught up in competition, “yoga politics” and chasing external results. Let go of all that, and still find intension, honesty and meaning in every breath and movement is not an easy thing to do. But it is so necessary.

Today I saw this gorgeous painting at our breakfast place and I asked my husband for quick pick. Mainly because these colors fascinate me. It was interesting that even 1 min of being in this posture and holding Dhyana Mudra with eyes closed was enough to start feeling a soft tingling on top of my palms.
1 minute!
Mudras are truly powerful but it is a subtle power. One needs to be attentive enough to notice.
