UTD Delta Hybrid System - Side or Back Mounted Diving
In designing the new Delta Trim Device, we set out to create one hybrid trim device that can do it all.
Delta works as both a back and side mounted rig, taking only minutes to transition between the two. Back or side mounted, in warm or cold water, paired with a hard, soft or travel backplate, Delta is truly the only single tank or side mount trim device you will ever need. To accomplish this we drew on everything we had learned designing the groundbreaking Z and Z+ side mount systems as well as the
Alpha and Alpha Doubles trim devices. What emerged was a versatile trim device that will accommodate almost any type of diving you do. The key to it all was a very low profile, streamlined trim device that contours to the body. The Delta, with 37lbs of lift, has a much lower profile than traditional wings. This streamlining produced a trim device that simply will not “taco” or wrap up and around the side of a tank, producing drag. Neither will the Delta Trim Device allow gas to roll around the bladder (referred to as “air shifting”) which produces instability in the divers trim. In designing the Z and Z+ systems we learned quite a bit about how the positioning of lift effects a divers trim. In previous wing designs, the emphasis was on placing the majority of the lift near the shoulders to achieve proper horizontal trim. The Delta Trim Device puts the majority of the lift lower on the body, exactly where the diver needs it. This naturally places the diver in a flat, feet up position. Delta was born hybrid. The overpressure valve and LP hose can be reversed to accommodate back and side mounted rigs. In a traditional wing, a diver would often have to transition from proper trim to a feet down or vertical position in order to dump gas out of the wing. In either configuration, the diver can dump gas from both right and left in any trim position. Introducing the Delta Trim Device. One trim device. Endless applications. Benefits of Delta Trim Device - Side Mount or Back Mount
• Super Low Profile and Streamlined.
• Always stays snug to your body. No wing or air cell flapping around behind you.
• Inflate and Deflate designed to function both in the horizontal prone position and the vertical position
• Dumps from the right and left side
• Designed to have lift positioned to ensure a good, flat horizontal prone position while diving.
• System design so all components are consistent, integrated and scalable.
• One size works for all environments. No need for multiple wings.
• Fits regular backplate, travel harness and soft harness
Designing the new Delta Trim Devices we ported over all the technology and knowledge we learned when designing the Z-System Side Mount System. We first had to ensure that we created a very low profile and streamlined "buoyancy wing" that would contour to your body - much like the Z-Trim and Z-Plus side mount trim devices do. This would reduce drag and reduce the amount of air "shift" from side to side in the wing or trim device, which ultimately causes instability. Secondly, we wanted to create the majority of lift where the diver actually needs it to keep their feet up and their body in that flat, horizontal trim we call the prone position. This was paramount when we designed the Z-Trim Devices. Thirdly, we wanted to have an aircell big enough to create enough lift for cold water divers and yet be streamlined enough for warm water divers. In other words, you only need to purchase one size wing for all your side-mount or back-mount diving. The Delta hybrid Trim device has from 0lbs/0kgs up to 38lbs/17kgs of lift. Keep in mind when the Delta Trim Device is empty it will NOT "Flap" around or taco around the tanks. It remains snug and streamlined around your body, reducing drag and creating easy movement through the water. Fourth, we wanted to ensure that the inflate and deflate ability of the device functioned excellently while in the horizontal position. We spend the majority of our diving time underwater in the flat and horizontal prone position so the deflate mechanism should be positioned to accommodate that and not force the diver to go feet down or vertical to deflate using the LP hose. We decided not to mount the LP inflate and deflate in the traditional manner, which is designed for diver to be in the vertical position. What we learned from designing the Z-Trim Device for side mount diving is that the buoyancy device must dump gas in all positions including vertical and horizontal. The Delta Trim Devices are designed so divers does not have to drop their feet in order to dump gas from the LP hose. Features and Benefits

Recreational, Cave, Technical, Wreck, so much more
• Streamline and Low profile Power and oral inflator
• Tucked in Right side Over pressure valve (OPV)
• Designed in a triangular shape to provide lift where a side-mount diver requires it.
• Baffled and pleated bladder to prevent bubble expansion when inflated.
• Attachment tri-glides to attach to harness waist strap and back-strap ensuring diver is lifted from the waist
• Low profile 90 degree robust elbow with low profile oval shaped corrugated hose.
• Adapts and fits all style of side-mount harness (Razor) or back plates or soft harnesses.
• Can accommodate a Single Tank Adapter (STA) to be converted to a Back mount System (Delta)
• Trim Device can be reversed -LP and OPV switch exchanged, allowing them to be internal. Specification

Today, August 31, 2012, at 11:30am PST UTD Equipment went live with a whole new redesigned website (http://www.utdequipment.com) Thanks to all the hard work over the summer of web designer Jeremy Bonner, the new UTD website is up and living. Amongst the many new products and features on the website, I believe, what this new design best illustrates is just how consistent, compatible, interchangeable and scalable the UTD/DIR Back Mount, Side Mount, Rebreather and ZUBA systems are. This new website is a huge step forward for UTD.
Go ahead take a tour around and let me know your thoughts and comments.
