๐Ÿค™๐Ÿผ Client Testimonial ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿผ

Iโ€™ve been really happy working with Michael. Heโ€™s not only extremely knowledgeable, but was able to apply that knowledge to my specific needs. He helped me refresh on the fundamentals and bring some new challenges into my routine. I always struggle with keeping my routine fresh and challenging. Michael was able to help me incorporate some new movements and Iโ€™m feeling more motivated and than ever.

๐ŸŒŸ Client Review ๐ŸŒŸ

Thanks April for this testimonial! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ

"Michael gave me an amazing experience as my first personal trainer. After suffering an injury and training to return to sport, Michael provided me with a program that was completely tailored towards my goals. He helped me navigate agility movements and regain the confidence I needed to train at the next level. Thanks to Michael, I'll be returning court with new tools to help my body and compete like I once did"

Work it out! Not with just an Ab Wheel, but with a Feelings Wheel (created by Geoffrey Roberts) and get a mindful core workout.

A Feelings Wheel is a tool used to help recognize and communicate feelings. It's a way to work smarter, not harder, with ourselves and others when identifying and managing emotions.

A Feelings Wheel allows us to open up instead of hiding behind what is the easy or standard answer. Increased relief comes with increased specificity in identifying our emotions and empathizing with them.

How to use the Feelings Wheel:
The core emotions are at the center of the circleโ€”which is the easiest place to start. After choosing the most accurate core emotion, track right to the outer edges of the circle to identify the more specific emotions that you connect with.

Teaching Polly what to look for when performing her lifts is truly empowering. Here she is monitoring to keep her shoulder directly over or slightly in front of the bar until she finishes the lift to keep lumbar extension from happening. Gotta love that game face ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Sapir was experiencing knee pain with lower body exercises. Her motor program was one of a few variables potentially causing it. Having her incorporate gait function into her lunges created an ideal chain reaction for better knee tracking and use of her hip's elastic potential.
Knees happy. I'm happy. She's happy.

Getting expert instruction on exercises you already know can make the world of difference. Pictured is Josi performing an upper and lower body pulling movement. Teaching her how to properly organize and stabilize key positions, and how to orchestrate the movements allowed her to really connect with the muscles involved - and look like a champ while doing it. She was also excited how sore she felt in the right areas with minimal loading.

Notice Jaime's Scapular rhythm during this 1-Arm Cable Push. On the deceleration, the stabilizers gave way and the scapula went into full retraction, thereby overloading the shoulder and tricep. A gradual retraction in the scapula would be ideal relative to the range or the depth in which he brings his elbow back. For most, I tend to limit that range to prevent anterior tilting of the shoulder - but I'll cover that compensation in another post. Showing Jaime this video gave him a view of his current movement strategy and revealed a possible variable in the shoulder discomfort he's been feeling. With awareness and physical guidance he was able to slightly improve the rhythm on the spot. Exercises to strengthen his serratus muscles will further enable him, and make this already strong guy stronger.

Avoid her like the virus
or she'll pop you in the iris
You better know this
This is Iris.

My rap skills aside, Iris always wanted to try boxing. She did great after all that longing! She kept her hands up... that's what's up. We just need to work on that mean look and mean left hook.

What better way to learn, than 1-on-1. Giving you all my focus, like you're my only son. I'll give you a nickname, too, just throw that 1-2.

She didn't go to Notre Dame, but "Fighting Iris" will be her name.

Norman, at 83 years of age has goals to enhance his balance and stability for work and play. Teaching him how to connect and coordinate the system of muscles involved in a step up (hip > obliques > lat) is giving him the awareness and confidence of what he is actually currently capable of doing in this situation.
Involving the dowel was not intended as a crutch, but a tool to anchor and activate the obliques and lat.
Now go tackle that hike with the family Norman!

Happy New Year's everyone!
I recently picked this up and am looking forward to providing you more tips to help you tranform to be the best version of yourself.
An atomic habit is a regular practice or routine that is not only small and easy to do but is also the source of incredible power; a component of the system of compound growth. Bad habits repeat themselves again and again not because you don't want to change, but because you have the wrong system for change.

High school athletes don't always get the instruction they need on weight lifting days, especially in large group settings. Grady attempted to demonstrate the deadlift he typically performs and I was excited for the opportunity to help him improve on it. I educated him on positioning and helped him experience the connection in the lift; and now he's realigned for better training habits. Thanks Grady for your focus and learner's heart. Keep it up young blood!
