Because the first month is supposed to be hard — and most people mistake "hard" for "wrong."

The truth is, around week four or five you hit this weird gap. You're no longer riding the excitement of being brand new, but you're not yet good enough to feel confident. You know just enough to see how far you still have to go. That's not a sign you're failing. That's literally the doorway to the part where it starts clicking.

Month two is where your body quietly takes over. Your guard comes up on its own. Your breathing settles. Combos that felt like solving a math problem start flowing without you thinking so hard. It's not dramatic — it's subtle. But one day in training you realize you're not surviving anymore. You're actually *training.* And that shift changes everything about how you show up.

The people who push through that uncomfortable middle part? They're the ones who fall in love with it. Not because they're tougher or more talented — but because they gave themselves enough time for the work to start paying off. Most people quit during the exact phase that was about to reward them.

If you're in your first month right now and some days feel like a mess — keep showing up. You're closer to the good part than you think.

Read the full post to see what actually changes in month two and why it matters more than month one ever did.

It taught me something no conversation ever could: how to hold my ground when someone's pushing forward.

Muay Thai is basically boundary-setting with immediate feedback. You learn your guard — hands up, elbows tight — and that guard is a physical "no." Not aggressive. Just clear. And when you drop it, you feel the consequence right away. There's no ambiguity, no second-guessing whether you were "too much" for protecting yourself. You either held the line or you didn't.

What surprised me is how fast that translates off the mats. After months of sparring, I noticed I was different in meetings, in friendships, in those moments where someone asks for something and your gut says no but your mouth usually says sure. The reps matter. You don't get better at boundaries by thinking about them — you get better by practicing them under pressure, over and over, until holding your ground feels more natural than dropping it.

Most people don't struggle with boundaries because they're weak. They struggle because they've never had a safe place to practice saying no with their whole body. That's what training gives you.

Full post breaks down how distance management, guard work, and gym discipline all build the same skill set you need in everyday life. Link in bio if you want the longer read.

On March 28th, we had the honor and privilege of promoting several dedicated SWAMA students to the Mongkol Level — a milestone that represents the heart, discipline, and commitment of a true martial artist.
In traditional martial arts, this level is often compared to a Black Belt… but here at SWAMA, the Mongkol represents even more — it symbolizes leadership, responsibility, and the journey of becoming an instructor and role model for others.
These individuals have shown consistency, resilience, and the warrior spirit that defines our SWAMILIA. This is not the end of their journey — it is the beginning of a greater responsibility.
We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you.
And to our members watching this moment — your time is coming. Stay consistent. Stay focused. Trust the process.
💥 The next generation of leaders is already rising.
