Yesterday’s class (Tuesday) from 6pm to 7pm, ALL LEVELS class, was attended in large numbers.

And the class was Rasai style, AWESOME! 💪🏻💥

What is a Sweep in Jiu-jitsu? 🤔

A Sweep in Jiu-jitsu is a move that unbalances your opponent, causing them to fall to the ground.

➡️ To help you prepare even more for the mat, here are 5 variations of the sweep:

🔸 Flower Sweep
The Flower Sweep is an ideal technique for beginners due to its ease of ex*****on and versatility. It can be performed from several positions, including guard, side control, mount, and turtle.

🔸 Scissor Sweep
The Scissor Sweep is another great option for beginners, as it doesn’t require much strength. By using your legs to control your opponent’s hips and legs while rotating your hips, you can perform this move in positions similar to the Flower and Butterfly Sweeps.

🔸 Hip Bump Sweep
Simple in ex*****on, the main concept of the Hip Bump Sweep is to knock your opponent off balance with your hips before sweeping them onto their back. This technique can be used from both the top and bottom positions.

🔸 Lumberjack Sweep
Starting in the guard position, reach with your hand on the same side and grab your opponent’s closest leg. Then, reach out and grab their far leg just above the knee with your other arm. With a firm grip on both legs, sweep their legs out from under them. As they fall, move into the mount position.

🔸 Butterfly Sweep
To execute the Butterfly Sweep from the guard, sit down and place your feet on your opponent’s hips. Grab their right sleeve with your left arm and their left pant leg with your right hand. Open your legs and sweep your opponent’s right leg with your left leg while pulling on their leg and sleeve at the same time.

While there are many variations of sweeps, they all aim to knock your opponent down! 💨

A sweep is usually performed when your opponent is trying to get up or is off balance.
